Yes they are, Karen. In fact, at my local shelter, it is part of the adoption process to chip the animals. And, if you are in the market for a new pet, please please PLEASE visit your local shelter. There are so many animals there that could use a good home. Don't shell out all that money for an expensive puppy mill dog. You can adopt a loving animal, have them "chipped" and spayed/neutered all for under $100.

A chocolate lab is my husband's dream dog, Terry. In fact, he had "dibs" on her from the time she was born. So, when her original owner was unable to keep her last year, he was the first person she thought of.
