DON'T MESS WITH TEXAS
The Texas Department of Transportation, or TX DOT as we affectionately call them, really takes good care of the 261,797 square miles that we Texans call home. Their litter campaign to help keep our state looking its best has the slogan "Don't Mess with Texas." The ads are fabulous, as are the fellow Texans like Willie Nelson or Matthew McConaughey that help out.
There is a Litter Force Contest being launched to help teach children about litter prevention. The steps to enter are easy. A parent or teacher orders a free Litter Force litterbag (either online or by snail mail) and they are automatically registered for the contest. The winner will receive a special performance from all four Litter Force superheroes; Bolt, Ultra, Hawk & K-900. AND they get to invite their 25 closest pals. AND they get 25 T-shirts. AND they get to take photos with the superheroes after they've performed. The deadline is December 31, 2009.
The Don't Mess with Texas Website has all kinds of interesting information about litter. In fact, they even have a short list of just what litter is - and they are clever in their delivery.
"Cigarette Butts (small but a nuisance), Gum (c'mon people), Apple Cores (even though they'll decompose) and UFT (Unidentified Flying Trash that flies out of a window or truck bed - accidentally or otherwise)"
TX DOT even offers a "Report a Litterer" option to let the state know when you've seen someone let their trash fly. You report them. A litter bag is sent to let them know they were seen & to give them a chance to clean up their act - literally!
