We all get them...WE all hate them...The dreaded...

Telemarketing calls.   They come at all times of the day, but mostly during dinner or your favorite TV show.  WHY???

Well, mostly because that is when you are home.  I received one the other day and I was cordial, short, but not rude.  This is not the way I use to treat them.

I used to yell and hang up...loudly!  Now just think about this for one second.  How many of you have done Cold Calling?  What is that.  A telemarketing call.  So many of us are also guilty of the calls that we hate.

In this economy, think what it is that many of us hate, even in  a good economy.   Welfare that goes to the able bodied is my biggest pet peeve.  Now, think about this.  Here is a person doing one of the most hated thing that most of us despise.  BUT...here is a person that is gainfully employed.  Here is a person that is trying to make it in this world without handouts and what are we doing....yelling at them!

This person is showing ambition.  So, the next time you get a call...try and be a bit nicer.  No one likes to be stepped on when they are trying.  Just think...It could be you or your family member some day!

William, putting my home phone number on the do-not-call list has cut down on most of these calls although every once in a while one seems to get through.  I usually wait for a moment when the caller has to come up for air and say no thank you as pleasantly as possible before I hang up.

It is always the "are you getting enough leads?" that clues me in...I hate that!

Ah yes ... are you open to accepting referals is the one I get. I respect what they are doing and some have valuable services to sell, but for the most part ... I'm a short "No thank you - please remove me from your list to save you time in the future. Good luck to you ..."

Linda...some of the calls are way off base.

Silvia...dead air is a big give-a way.

Melissa...I keep getting the window repair guys.

Nancy...For those trying to make a living...I am sure it helps.  I used to clod call for Life Ins, 25 years ago.  A nasty respose always put a damper on my night!

I just looked into a company that does this.  Looking for a part time person. The rejection is the one thing that bothers me.

Bill...

We are salespeople too after all, and they are just trying to make a sale, so I am nice up to a point. But when I say NO I wish they would give up a little easier!

William, I have to admit that I've gone from being rude to "please take my name off your list, thank you" click.

Someone mentioned the do not call list. All my numbers are on the list but I still get the calls. That is not trying to make a living, it is breaking the law.

I don't like these calls, but agree that at least these people are working.  I also don't like spam mail.

I've noticed an up-tick in the volumn of telemarketing calls to my home recently.  Most have been from charities.  I've always found it difficult to "hang-up" on charity appeals.  So, I usually let them go on for a minute or so before cutting them off.  I then thank them for the call.  Cold calling is a thankless exercise and I can appreciate how difficult their job can be.

Fortunately I have not done any cold calling, but still I do not yell and carry on.  They are just trying to made money too.

I try my best to be polite, but when the same people call me over and over again even after I have asked them not to, I get a little aggravated. However, in the end I know they are just trying to make a living as well.
