My new car has Serius XM radio and I found a channel today called Margaritaville. I hadn't heard a Jimmy Buffett song on the radio for ages so I must say I really got into the music. Upbeat, fun music that reminded me of being on a Caribbean vacation and made me want to be on one again.
It also made me think about whether the speculation that the two very rich Buffetts, Warren and Jimmy were related was true or not.
I found this Fortune magazine article which noted that the two uncommon Buffetts provided their DNA in 2007 to see if indeed they did have a common bond.
The DNA results concluded that Jimmy and Warren do have common ancestors. The only hitch is that you have to go back 10,000 years to find that connection. Other than the fact that they are both wealthy, they also both play stringed instruments. I've yet to see Warren Buffett play an instrument or Jimmy Buffett wear a suit.
Listening to that radio station REALLY made me want to take a vacation. And my husband just happens to be on vacation next week.
I went online tonight to look at vacations just for fun. (Just like consumers go online to look for properties for sale). I found a last minute trip to Cuba leaving this coming Tuesday for a week, for a great price. I couldn't resist. I filled in my information, pressed send and presto - no turning back.
I guess I can blame Jimmy for my impulsiveness. My husband has gone out and deleted the Margaritaville station from the pre set buttons on the car. Too late.
Jenny that's great! I know you will have a wonderful time. If you decide to make a stop at the Airport in Jamaica You can eat at Magaritville ...yes Jimmy Buffet likes Jamaica too.
And please take lots of pictures, as if you need any encouragement.....lol
You betcha! I will do my own little slideshow when I return with a Buffett song lol. Americans don't realize what they are missing by not being able to experience Cuba.
Haha Jennifer, I actually saw Margaritaville in Jamaica when we stopped there for a cruise. I think I took a picture there actually. Wonder where I put that. We are going to Holguin this time so will get to enjoy the sunsets. Last time we were in Cayo Coco. I'm sure there were beautiful sunrises but I don't do sunrises. We barely made it to breakfast before it finished.
Hasn't it been a drab week? I looked at the weather for next week in Cuba and it looks like some rain also but it will be a warm rain and it doesn't rain all day. Have a great weekend.
I've never really heard of anyone going to Cuba. Guess that comes from living in Miami where so many came from Cuba. They say it is beautiful so I hope to see some photos. Have a wonderful time!
Jenny: Wow... you have to go back 10,000 years to connect Jimmy and Warren. Yikes... I was very young, then.
Have fun on your trip. AND... if MY husband... (if I had one... LOL) would have deleted my Margaritaville station... I would have starched his jockey shorts, or worse. Once I got him down to Cuba, I'd tell him to straighten out... or else !
By the way... you never told us what kind of new car you got. Of course, you must have taken pictures, too. Sounds like a good topic for a new post... doncha think ?
Jenny, I am jealous! Having lived in South Florida for years, I am well aware of the power that comes from just one Jimmy Buffett song!! :-} We go to Jamaica every year and fly over Cuba, but have never vacationed there. Can't wait to see photos and hear all about it. Have a great time
Jenny, again, have a great time on your trip, and I'll be looking for the beautiful photos. You'll have to take some special shots of the ocean/waves just for me. :)
Hi Jenny..I like impulsive holidays..to bad about loving the new station on your favorite button setting :O(
Cheers, have fun in the Sun...I hope to be studying with the AR Gods in Seattle next week to learn some new tricks with Blog marketing...oh by the way my wife is coming with me to Shop:O)
Jenny, I have a friend who is Cuban but, can not go there until Castro is gone...long story...anyway as soon as she and her husband are free to travel there, our group of friends (about 15 very close friends) are going!
Hi Lee and Carol, Cuba is a very popular destination for Canadian and British visitors. It's too bad Americans are not allowed to visit. You are missing a beautiful island.
Haha Debra you made me laugh - I think you mean Hola. Isn't Ole what they say in the Spanish bullrings?? I am so looking forward to the Cuban sunsets. I will fill you in when I get back.
Hahah Karen Anne - I have Margaritaville back on the radio. My husband figured out there are 3 rows of presets so the first row is all mine. I bought a 2010 Chev Malibu. For years I've had Ford Windstar vans and then the Taurus wagon all because of the kids. So this one is for me. Well I must admit I have a blanket in the trunk to put down on the back seat for Lola. Plus a towel. She likes to run into the lake to chase the ducks.
Hi Amy - I've never stayed in Jamaica. Just visited the port in Ocho Rios when on a cruise. We were thinking of coming to Florida for the week but by the time we added airfare, rental car, food, hotels, Cuba was cheaper.
Sylvie - I will feed the fish especially for you. I read that the snorkelling right off the hotel we are going to is great.
Hi Mary, yes Jimmy looks to be quite the character. No Margaritaville restaurants where we are going. In fact no Americans where we are going. I think they are talking about opening the doors though, aren't they?
Hi Janna - I must tell you, it takes me about a day and a half to unwind. Honestly after sitting on the beach the first day after a few hours I always feel guilty and want to go home. Then I slap myself silly, jump in the ocean and want to stay in there forever.
Hi Ken - I find the cups they give you are getting smaller and smaller. We are going to take thermos bottles this time to keep our drinks cold. I don't like those sweet syrupy drinks anymore but there is usually something that catches my fancy.
Hi Fred, that sounds like fun in Seattle. For your wife anyway lol. Are you going to the CREA conference in Victoria later this month?
Aha Steve - Do tell about your impulsive decisions!! I will miss you guys. I don't think I will get on the internet much. I did take my Blackberry last time and it worked there so will take again to be able to text the kids.
Hey Nick - You will have a blast. The beaches are nicer than any island I've been to except Bahamas. Clear and warm. The Cuban people are so friendly yet so poor.
Al and Peg - Are you there yet? How was the long ride? I hope your condo is nice. I haven't checked the weather in Myrtle Beach but I"m sure it's much warmer than here. Still drizzling on and off as it has all week.
I listen to Q107 most of the time (rocker chick LOL); but I also like the 60s and 70s ... and I've programmed them the same way you did. That's hilarious. :)
Hey Jenny try the blend on 25, its good to for variety! Hey have a great time in Cuba! Toes in the water, A== in the sand, YEAH! Everything great here, 82 degrees, though heard it may be 70 tomorrow with a bit of rain then back up again. BTW, thanks for the anniversary wishes via email.....
