I am reblogging this as I am forever greatful that my manager is now recovering from breast cancer surgery and chemo... and it is important to support this cause to make women AND men aware of the importance of early detection.

Awareness

This disease touches so many and changes lives forever..we can do the same but in a positive way!

Help Fight Breast Cancer...the reality is there is a good chance someone you love will be affected by this disease.

You never know...by following the instructions you might save a human life!

SPREAD THE WORD!

Please tell ten friends to tell ten today! The Breast Cancer site is having trouble getting enough people to click on their site daily to meet their quota of donating at least one free mammogram a day to an underprivileged woman. It takes less than a minute to go to their site and click on 'donating a mammogram' for free (pink window in the middle).

This doesn't cost you a thing. Their corporate sponsors/advertisers use the number of daily visits to donate mammogram in exchange for advertising.

Here's the web site! Pass it along to people you know.

Hi Joan, I was watching a documentary early this week on the increasing number of men getting breast cancer. Years ago, I read about some research by Rita Karmali ( spelling of last name ?? ) with Rutgers that there is a connection of body fat content to the increasing frequency of breast cancer ( and other forms of cancer) but her research was limited to breast cancers and lymph). This was not about being over weight but that the fat content that accumulates in the body. I have not heard much new on this but it seems to make sense. The gene that defines the probability of a likely heretical affinity  to breast cancer is also getting more attention. It would be great if they can better define it's presence and actually destroy or alter the gene in younger persons, perhaps preventing the inevitability to the disease. We live in times when the treatment of water, food and suspended particulates in the air are actually increasing in direct proportion to the number of cancer case frequency, where it is my belief these things affect and can influence the genes to behave in a certain manner. Glad to see you and the many others that support this great cause.

Dorie -- Incredible amount of money you have raised!  I am overwhelmed... what a great effort on your part and the part of your company.

It is actually  my manager who was diagnosed with breast cancer and now is on the road to "recovery" and and has 1 more surgery for reconstruction.  Fortunately, insurance companies in NH must offer the reconstruction.

Thanks for reblogging this post.

William ~  The body fat issue definitely plays a roll in many diseases... and you are so correct, that someone can look "lean" and have too much body fat.  I first became aware of men and breast cancer when one of my realtor colleagues fathers was diagnosed.

It also appears that contamination in water may be a factor per last week's news.  Some claim toxic chemicals in the water were the culprit.  http://current.com/items/91025726_twenty-us-military-males-with-breast-cancer.htm

I try to eat as many "natural foods" as possible.. and fortunately, there are some local farms nearby and their prices are pretty competitive.

This is a great cause and I am happy to support it.

Thanks Joan!  My sister in law was diagnosed in February and is now on the up and up.  It hits really close to home when someone you graduated high school with is affected by this disease!

Carole - I thank you Carole... I hope they get a lot of clicks and that it will result in early detection for both women and men!

Hi Joan...Thank goodness we've come along way with the early detection and the improved treatment for breast cancer.  Unfortunately lung cancer has now become the number one cancer killer for woman.  We make progress in one area and regress in another.  It's discouraging and encouraging all at one time.

George  ~ Cancer is a horrible disease and one which still is difficult to cure.  The good new for breast cancer is that early detection does usually have a good prognosis.. although it still is touch with surgeries, chemo and/or radiation and often the life-long side effect lyphodema!  I hope the find a cure soon..

Kate ~ Early detection is the key.  However, it still is difficult to pinpoint the cancer with the current technology.  There are still a lot of cancers that are difficult to detect and very lethal!

Teri ~ Looks like you snuck in while I was posting a message to George and Kate.  You are right, just about everyone knows someone who is going through or has gone through breast cancer or other types of cancer treatment.  It still is a very difficult journey.

Jennifer -- with all of the early detection women are finding they have a good outcome.  However, the surgeries and chemo are not easy and it take almost a year out of one's life.
