When you are vacationing out of the country and english is not the predominant language it helps to know some of the local lingo. So when you are going to move it helps if you can speak mover at least a little bit. So here are some terms you may see on your BILL OF LADING
"The receipt for your goods and the contract for their transportation. It is your responsibility to understand the bill of lading before you sign it. If you do not agree with something on the bill of lading, do not sign it until you are satisfied that it is correct. The bill of lading is an important document. Don't lose or misplace your copy."
The first is the LINE HAUL
"Charges for the vehicle transportation portion of your move. These charges apply in addition to the additional service charges".
the next is the ACCESSORIAL (ADDITIONAL or sometimes referred to as THIRD PARTY) SERVICES
" Services such as packing, appliance servicing or unpacking that you request to be performed (or are necessary because of landlord requirements or other special circumstances). Charges for these services are in addition to the transportation charges. Other additions could be appliance services, crating, masonite and floor covering or cubicle instalation or break down etc "
Another charge that you may see on many forms is a FUEL SURCHARGE
This is a charge to the customer to offset fuel costs when they are higher. In many states this is an illegal practice and AMSA will have links to look that up in your state. A FUEL ADDITIVE or just ADDITIVES is legal and this is a flat rate that is added for carrying items like snowmobiles, wave runners or cars.
I will add more glossery items in the future.
