Did anyone think it possible? After all the planning and millions of dollars spent to bring the 2016 Olympics to Chicago, the bid would be tossed aside at the onset?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/olympic_games/8283061.stm

After all, Michelle Obama and Oprah sacrificed ( taxpayers money? ) to go all the way to Copenhagen to push the bid.  Not to mention Barack Obama, flew there the following day (on taxpayers money) to place his shining star on the ticket.

Yes, it is possible.  The IOC and the WORLD have said no.

Could it have been the protests in Chicago against having the Olympics there that caused it?  Could it be gang killing of a teenager and the beating of another teenager that caused it.

Or, could this just be another worldwide "NO" to Obama?  Possibly.  Seems the POTUS is hearing that word a lot these days.

Only time will tell.

Sadly, obama is not hearing it enough. He has heard it so little he has not fully grasped the meaning. There is hope he will realize it is not all about him one day soon as 2012 is still a long way off. At least the Mrs and both their entourage have had another taxpayer funded vacation and every minute he and they are out of the country is a good time for America.

Obama:  "Yes, we can!"

IOC:  "No, you can't!"

Bob, I think the dissent by the populace of Chicago said a lot. Obama should learn from it.

Who knows, maybe the IOC is afraid we will be at war in 2016.  At the rate we are going we might be a third world country at that time.

I'm guessing that they're worried about scheduling the games to be held in a country that they think could be bankrupt before the games are held.

Bob -

So... I wonder how long it will be before we hear how 'Racist' the IOC is?

11:54am • #6

Jeff: Your comment is quite telling. Thanks for interjecting your racist views into the story.

11:56am • #7

The protests, beatings, and killings couldn't be helping, but I imagine Jon's comment (#5) has a lot to do with it too.  Our country is rather unstable financially.  If that continues, it would be a real problem for the Olympics - as there wouldn't be funding available to handle many of the necessary "details."

The Mayor's inappropriate comments (and the subsequent defence of those comments by some) probably also played an important part in factoring Chicago out.

Bob - I am sure the Bubba and Hil will somehow find a rightwing conspiracy at the root of this.

Jeff - good point. We seem to see the race card often when the annointed one gets a tiny setback.

Jeff, I guess someone is suggesting you are a racist and have racist views.  Never dawned on them the IOC thought the presentation was dismal and Chicago not worthy.

Maybe it was the Obama line about "welcoming the world into our neighborhood" that got them.  Considering Bill Ayers is one of those neighbors.

Scott -

It's your Far-Left Comrades who have the "racist views", feebly trying to attribute any opposition to blindly falling in line with Obama's wishes, to "Racism".

I'm just wondering how long it will be before we see the charge made.

2:14pm • #12

Now, according to Scott (#7), guessing that someone (such as Jesse Jackson, or Charlie Rangel, or Jimmy Carter, or Julian Bond, or Kanye West, or Ray Nagin, or Louis Farrakhan, or Sheila Jackson Lee, or Al Sharpton, or Maxine Waters, or Maureen Dowd, or Harry Belafonte, or John Conyers, or Jeremiah Wright, or...) may bring out the race card is an indication that whoever does the guessing must be racist.  Quite telling.

John - Thanks.  It's curious how any disagreement with him is racist, yet none of the incessant criticism of Palin could ever, in any way, be considered sexist.

Bonnie - Perhaps he missed the fact that Chicago received the fewest number of votes?  And the two recent, highly publicized head bashings by members of "The Agitator's Community" couldn't have helped any.

Bob...The world is getting tired of the super powers trying to push everything throught to their own liking and advantage.  I for one am happy to see some of the smaller countries getting a shot.  True, the Olympics may lose some of the glamour that the super powers can provide, but maybe we will get back to what it is all about...the athleats!

I agree with Jon, the committee did not want to face the preospect of $400,000 for a slice of pizza.

Jeremy - Thanks for the comment and contributing to the discussion.

John - I think I just heard that it cost the taxpayers almost $900,000.  Pretty expensive.  Thanks for commenting.

Patrick -  Thanks for commenting and making me laugh.

Bonnie - I agree, the people of Chicago were pretty vocal on this issue.  The IOC has thier own reasons and we may never really know for sure.  Thanks for commenting.

Jon - The cost involved with putting these games together can get pretty high.  I've heard the price tag for Chicago would be in the vicinity of 5 billion.  Thanks for the comment.

Jeff - I would hope that wouldn't be used as an excuse, but these days, that terf flies around like crazy.  Thank you for participating in the discussion.

David - Thanks for participating in the discussion, and I'm sure the IOC has had it's ear on the pulse of the world to see which country would "best" host the Olympics.

Mike - There is no doubt the blame will be passed on to some unsuspecting bystander.  Thanks for the comments.

John - Again, I say I would hope that wouldn't be an issue, but won't be surprised if it is used.  Thanks for commenting.

William - Thank you for participating in the discussion.  I guess the IOC isn't too impressed with the rock star persuasion of our super power government.  It's nice to know that South America is finally getting a chance at the Olympics.

Tana - Is the cowboy riding off into the sunset?  Thanks for commenting.  Love the new photo.

I have to say I don't think the old boy is hearing it enough... there are a lot of issues on his desk that deserve a big fat No, but it does seem he's hearng it more and more.  I kinda like that. ha

Now Sen Burris - appointed by another corrupt politician from IL- is blaming Bush for Chicago not getting the games. Get a grip idiot! Rio budgeted $14 billion and Chicago $5 billion that they did not have! The dems will blame Bush when the annointed one loses the next election too. Surely, they blame Bush for Christ being hung on the cross too.

Goes to show you how low he will go to create a legacy. I think there are more important issues to deal with. I wonder how much that cost US...

Helping you live your American dream...

4:45am • #26

John R - Are you serious?  Burris is blaming Bush?  That's funny!  (And sad, if true, for Burris and the people of Illinois.  Just waking up... haven't seen any news yet.)

I guess Bush was a LOT more powerful and involved than anyone thought! LOL!

9:03am • #27

Bob, There is no doubt in my mind.. :)

Glad you like the picture... Have a great weekend!!!!

9:36am • #28

David - yes, Burris was on national news last night making an even bigger fool of himself and those he associates with (DNC). He blamed Bush for the failure of Chicago to get the Olympics. Could it be because Bush was proud of the US and obama has been telling the world how bad the US is but not to worry as he is god and will fix the world? Could it be the IOC has been following obama and knows the US will be as broke a 3rd world country by 2016? Could it be the IOC has been listening to obama and knows there is no one that should believe a word he says?

Jesse & Kathy - My guess is he better get used to hearing it.  Times are changing.  Thanks for commenting.

John - What would one expect from Burris?  He's deep in the pocket of corruption.  The Olympics are extremely costly and the more a country/city is willing to do the more the IOC likes.  Thank you for your input and comments.

Michael - Thanks for commenting.  Legacy .... hmmmm, time will make his legacy for him.  I do believe "cost" will be a factor in it.

Tana - Just as I suspected.  The celebration was organized, and no one came.

John - Some very interesting question you ask there.  Thanks for contributing.  Maybe we can get someone to come in and answer them for you.  I sure can't.

10:07am • #32

John/Bob COULD IT BE  that the Obamas got up there and talked about THEMSELVES again?  COULD IT BE that everyone was thinking GOOD GOD DO WE HAVE TO SEE MORE OF THESE PEOPLE?  I'm sure even people half way around the globe are tired of seeing their faces and hearing their voices... the IOC just decided to NIP that QUICK!

10:10am • #33

Tana - More good questions.  The IOC wants to see a good plan and a lots of money being spent.  Not just rhetoric about Me, Me, Me.

I think maybe you been watching too much of that FIX news.  Probably that mean (fake frog killer) Glenn Beck guy.

10:16am • #34

No No No, I don't watch Glenn Beck... I think I have just seen too much OBAMA everywhere I turn... his saturating the airwaves has gotten old pretty quickly.  I do watch Fox though :)

Anyway, the Obamas just try too hard to tap into the emotions of people... the wife, getting up there and telling that story about how her dad had MS or whatever and would have just LOVED to see the Olympics in Chicago... Do you really think people give a flyin' F#&* about what you or your dad want?  I'm so tired of their dramatic little stories.  AND I'm sure everyone else is about tapped out on them too.  Everything is so sad and heartfelt.  Run the Country and shut up damn it!

Oh, and Im sure the fact that they went there all PUFFED up thinking they had it in the bag didnt help much either.. Ha!  I think its hilarious.

All this needless spending.. and Obama isn't listening... well there's something new.  Why Chicago in the first place?  I never thought that was a fitting city.. for the Olympics.
