This morning I contacted the office of Congressman Alan Grayson. We could discuss his speech to the House. We could discuss the attempts to make him say sorry coming from both sides of the political isle. We could even discuss his motives - many say have nothing to do with health care.

But the thing I wanted to discuss was his use of the word "HOLOCAUST". I'm not interested in dictionary definitions, just in what it means to millions of people all across the planet.

So when I contacted his office this morning I had but one question. Does the Congressman wish to withdraw that one word?

Well it took a few hours but I just received the reply. In fact it was a reply sent to the Anti Defamation League which apparently had asked a similar question - and here it is.

"I just wanted to re-iterate my thoughts regarding people's concerns over my recent statement on the Floor of the U.S. House of Representatives. I am Jewish and have relatives who died in the Holocaust. In no way did I mean to minimize the Holocaust. I regret the choice of words, and I will not repeat it. I am a staunch supporter of Israel and on numerous occasions, I have said that Iran must be restrained to avoid another Holocaust. I personally support the Anti-Defamation League and its work."

Personally I am pleased he regrets using the word. Personally I am pleased he plans on not repeating it. Personally I am disgusted that he couldn't bring himself to utter the word "sorry". There is no shame in apologising Congressman. It takes a real man or woman to step up and say "I made a mistake". The fact that you didn't when given the chance speaks volumes to me - one of your constituents I might add - and I'm sure it speaks volumes to many others who will get the chance to vote for or against you next year.

SHAME!

Simon, I appreciate where you went with this.  Some people are simply not programed to use the word "sorry."  I will not use it either when I do not vote for his kind.

Nice to see a democrat with the cajones to speak his mind.  The holocaust reference was regrettable and apparently he wishes he hadn't used the word, that's good enough, time to move on.

Ed - I was surprised that when I gave him the opportunity, he declined to say he was sorry.

John - frankly this isn't a Democrat/Republican issue. It's a human one. He should have said he was sorry. If it was a Republican I would be saying the same thing. Do you have any idea how insulting the use of that word is in the context that he used it to those who still survive and to the families of all those who didn't?

I've met Grayson twice and heard him debate at ORRA prior to the 08 election.  Smart guy, well qualified guy, but very very liberal.  Also he is a DC trial attorney, never really lived or worked in Orlando.  His family lives here, but he pretty much just flys home on the weekends even before he was elected.  That really makes it questionable whether he really resides in Orlando.

The word is "I made a mistake" should be said....Orlando should say I am sorry for voting for your sorry ass.

Why is it considered weakness to say I am sorry? Political correctness dictates it I guess. Guess I will never be politically correct.

Simon,

What you are forgetting is the the leadership of the Democratic Party is almost completly void of any level of moral decency. With Nancy Pelosi as speaker of the house can you see any reason that those beneath her leadership should show any respect. The fish always stinks from the head down.

Simon,

First Ted in a comment on my post noted that he is well educated. Now you are showing that he is supposed to understand the lightheadedness of using some words indiscriminately, and I am really surprised.

I would assume that this level of education somehow should be noticeable, and it wasn't. It was cheap, both the speech, and then what he called "apology".

I can't get rid of the feeling that this level was not any higher than Joe the Plumber's, who was ostracized by liberals.

Simon - Simply put, this guy is a "Horses Ass".  I apologize for the use of the profanity, but couldn't come up with a better description.

John,

You would think that would make him more sensitive rather than less.

I was also surprised how this did not make him better understand what he was saying. Well, beng Jewish is not a panacea.

In his case it is simply adding to the obvious

John - Again, you think you are brilliant with your one liners, but you prove yu are blinded by party lines. Wrong is wrong whether you are Jewish or not.

Rob - you nailed it

Nick #5 - you are of course correct

Mike - I really find it hard to accept that he didn't say sorry

Hugh #7 - I'm not forgetting it - I just like to think the best of people when faced with a mistake

Nick #8 - working on a bigger one buddy. Shameless self promotion is the American way!

Bob - profanity and all - a good description

John - first of all the fact that he is Jewish is IN THE BLOG!! I suggest you read it. Secondly, being Jewish does not give you special priviledges to downgrade the holocaust. Finally, your "he is Jewish - nuff said" comment is racist in nature. You might like to edit it.

Larry - time will tell my friend.

Simon - Yes, when a true racist comment is revealed, no one on the left points that out, they only try to say the other side is a binch of racists without proof.

Simon

It is symptomatic of our society.      Apologies  are becoming rare and it is sad. But the fact that our leaders don't want to apologize only reinforces it.

Saying I am sorry is one of the hardest things for some to say, yet it reaps the most rewards n the long run.
