Seems as if Security Bank, which is now First Security Bank, was a lovely building where lots of photos were taken.  First Security Bank in Searcy Arkansas has just remodeled this bank to look original as in these pictures.

These two ladies are posing at the same spot.

The first lady below in the fur coat (which we're afraid to wear now) is unknown unless some of my readers can identify her.  Notice the old city lamp post reflected in her picture.  Reportedly these antiques were later on sold and replaced with more modern ones.  What's that thing under the lamp post?

The second lady is our famous Corrine Hart, Anita Fuller's mother,  who lived to be 100 and actually suggested the name Security Bank.  Notice at the end of the street is First Methodist Church, a landmark and still in existence

Of interest to the fashion conscious, note the shoes.....almost the same.....gotta have fashion just as we have today!  And the skirts then had to be the same length to be in style.

Nice to see things "back in the day".  I have family photos like yours.  Always wonder about those days before WW2.

Barbara, that thing under the lamp post would appear to be something iside the bank:)

Is that a squirrel coat?

Kenneth, perhaps you could share some of them.

Charles, I thought it might be a water fountain....outside by the lamp.  Nutsy at least does not have to worry about a squirrel skin coat!

Charles, a coat made of nothing but squirrel tails would be lovely, wouldn't it?  Do not let Nutsy see this!!!!!

Those are wonderful pictures especially with the reflections. My take on the fountain looking image is that it's in the bank. I think it's one of those pedastals where you fill out your deposit/withdrawal slips. I'm sure it's not on the street near the lamp post.

Here's one of Paula's pics showing the lamp post across the street. Any thought about what that object to the left of the lamp post might be?

Lamp Post

At the end of the block across from the Methodist Church is where I lived in 1942.

BTW, Paula's pic is a faded 2" x 2" print.

Barbara, Anita's mother is beautiful.

My Dad's bank was colonial style with enormous white pillars and red brick. We were raised Methodist. So you see, Ms. Barbara, if not for your trouble making godsqrl, we have so much in common.

Speaking of, Nutsy's tail would compliment Daniel Boone's hat (or was that Davy Crockett). But Nutsy already knows that. I suspect we are seeing Wheatloaf's tail on Nuty's own hat. Now that is disturbing.

Barbara, in 1982, First Security Bank was celebrating their golden anniversary and I have one of the papers that they put out for that occasion.  On the backside is the title of First Security Gazette.  I don't know if that is the name just for this occasion or not.  Anyway, it is dated Monday, February 1, 1932 and one of the items of interest is the announcement of Corrine H. Hart will be going to work for the new Security Bank in March.  Also, the bank is expecting to be able to handle postal savings deposits in a few months.

There is also mentions of Ray Yarnell, Elmer Ward, Walter W. Lanier, Constable W. H. Holmes, Miss Ruth Powell, Mr. Webb.

Boris Karloff and John Barrymore whose film was playing at the Rialto Theatre.

A new candy bar named "The Three Musketeers" will soon be in candy shops across town.

The Zippo lighter will replace matches for lighting cigarettes.

A new brand of peanut butter names "Skippy".

New Talking movie "King Kong"

There was more, but this is a sample.

Don, isn't the mystery object one of the old, brown, US Mail Collection boxes?

Don, you came up with the answer, as usual.  That little picture of Paula's was one of the favorites when it came out on this blog.  You did a nice blow up of the lamp.  Thanks.

Kate, we would be great friends if you could just come around and see the goodness of my godson.

Ludean, what an interesting newspaper.  We may need to put it on the blog.  Corrine is going to be famous!!

Bob, I'm sure Don will have an answer.

We have never mentioned the hulking figure at the end of the street.  Looks like a big-foot or something and then there is the shadowy figure at the alley.   Mystery grows!!

Maybe zuevents of the past would be a good blog.

The part about the persons of interest is interesting to read.  And the date shows it to be in 1932.  One part read: "Constable W. H. Holmes of McRae brought a man to the Searcy jail last week and charged him with stealing a two-horse breaking plow said to be valued at $15.00,"

"Searcy Mayor Mark P. Jones reports that the population of the town in now approximately 2,000 people."

Ludean, you have established the date that Corrine went to work for the bank.  That helps date some of these pictures.

Do you think Mr. Jones was mayor in 1932?  I guess so if that was the date on the paper.  2000 people would be about the size of Judsonia, wouldn't it.

Nutsy, we welcome everyone but that gambler's outfit that you have on might not go over well.  I personally love it though!!  Come visit Halloween night.

I don't know what "zuevents" are or how I got them in that sentence.  I think I goofed up royally!  I meant "events".  Sorry...........

Ludean, I thought that was a word that I didn't know but was afraid to ask.  LOL

Ludean, I don't know but maybe that zu prefix was a omen for today's weather. Zu - (noun) evil storm god represented as a black bird.

Thanks for the First Security Gazette readings.

Anita, where are you? I was sure you would be chirping into this blog.

Thanks, Don, for the meaning of that word.  I can't imagine how I wrote that or why, just a mistake.

Bob, I think you're right about the mailbox. That would be a good place for one near the bank.

I had forgotten about those brown boxes.

I have been in Searcy for the past 2 days, with no computer.   When Searcy converted to different, hopefully more modern and effective street lamps, the old ones were sold to anyone who wanted them.  My dad bought one and had it installed in our back yard, 1008 W. Arch.   I think I have some pictures taken in the back yard with the lamp in the background, I'll try and find them.

And the mystery of the Cautrell house has been solved.  The Ghent mover moved it to Sowell Street , right behind the old Woodson brick house on the corner of Arch St.   It looks so nice, just like it did originally.  And, too, I passed by the Coward house that is being split up and moved:  looks just like it's picture, Barbara.  You done good.   Oh, and correction:  Joe Coward's father was a game warden, not a state trooper as I had earlier written.

Okay, Anita.  I'll see if I can go slink into the back yard of that house and see if I see an old lamp.  And we have solved a few more mysteries!

Anita, there is no lamp in your backyard.  I cruised and looked.  None.  Zilch!  I'm sorry......

I am crushed to know it is no longer there.  Why would anyone remove it?  WHO removed it?  And what did they do with it?    I'm still looking for old pictures taken in the back yard that will show the lamp really was there, and not a figment of my imagination.

Anita, there was an auction there a few years back and lots of antiques were in the house and were bought by a dealer.  He may have bought your lamp too.  OR, since you say your mom remodeled that house many times maybe she had to move it.  I tried to find a way to fit your picture of the porch with a view of the house now and I couldn't see it.  I also am afraid to use the picture of the person you sent me.  She might be mad and she'f pretty powerful right now!!!!
