I went off to Home Depot to pick up a few things as we getting prepared for a wedding with various events adn guests at our house next week.

What a shock!!

I am SOOO not ready for this. How about you?

Holiday display at the Home Depot in Encinitas California on Oct. 2, 2009

And then there's this.

Looks like a Modernist painting, I guess. But while picking up some garden mulch it started raining. RAIN. In So Cal in early Fall? SOOO out of character. And then it rained HARD for a couple of minutes about 30 minutes later. Fortunately I at least had my phone camera, despite the inferior quality.

A real  shock for the eyes on Friday in Carlsbad.

Are you talking about the shock of seeing Christmas on the 1st of October?  Well get ready!!!  It's almost here--- just kidding!

I love Carlsbad, my family camps on your beaches every year in August for a week.  Been there every year since I was an infant.

Now my brothers, cousins and friends with their babies enjoy staying at the State beach.  I know this is completely off topic, but just wanted to let you know what a wonderful resource you have there.

Was born and raised in the OC, those beaches do not hold a candle to CB.

RE: Christmas coming before Halloween??  well I'm thinking they are trying to get folks to spend money on Christmas before they lose their jobs..........sounds sad hugh?

Maybe we will have Valentines before Christmas this year.

Jeff - I'm sooooo not ready for this either!!  Geez I'm not even thinking of Halloween yet.   Nothing like rushing the season with such a huge in your face reminder,

It's been raining for 2 days here in Cleveland...in about 2 weeks it could actually be snow.

Kathy - aaaahhhhh. It is still amost 3 months! I know you are right, but this was my FIRST smack in the face. The catelogs have already started arriving.

Melissa - yes it IS beautiful. And from what I have heard from several others this scene in Home Depot is NOT uncommon. I think retailers everywhere are working on making this a good money making season in these tough econmic times. Love your pic - are u an equestrian from way back?

Donna - it was SUCH a shock. It really waas a surprise. My wife says this stuff is out there all over.

Rita - Halloween? You mean I have to think about that NOW? It's 4 weeks.

Barb - OMG. Not THAT is scary. But there already had a good snow in Colorado so I should not be surprised. You can have it. :)  BTW I'm glad we are now connected on FB.

Jeff,

I was born and raised in HB, CA, moved to Oregon 1st grade and lived on a farm.  Became a horse owner and lover then.

Educated in the OC and relocated to TX to enjoy my dream.  I love the country.  So sad I missed out on Carlsbad this year, my entire family was there, ummm that's about 25 campsites.  Will be there next year.  It is a great family tradition.

Talk about EARLY...I am still mesmerized by gold and purple and russett leaves against Carolina Blue skies...

Oh no -- ABSOLUTELY 100% NOT ready!  I can't believe I have seen the same sort of things in some the stores in NH.  I went to get a b-day gift for a friend and all there was in the store were x-mas items!  NO WAY..

LOL! I'm not surprised. With this crappy economy they're going for the biggest spending time of the year. May as well go straight to where the money is... now what's with the pic of the floor? =P

Don't you have other problems in Carlsbad now - the La Costa hoo hah!  I guess this is to take the residents' minds off that.  We had the same thing in L.A. recently.  Can't remember where, but it was Xmas in the store.  And please keep that rain away from us.

Hi Jeff, Now that's telling it like it is. I was at Costco yesterday and like those in the floral wholesale bsuiness, this is the time to buy the lights and supplies. It still seems to early but isn't , really. It is now only 12 weeks until Christmas. Got your shopping done, lol.

Can Valentines be far behind?

You can't blame the merchants this year...they'd like to have Christmas save their year once again.  It didn't last year.

I clicked and immediately... groaned. Christmas has become so commercialized that it can be nauseating to see some of these displays. Especially when we aren't even in the season!

Jeff

I am so not ready for this yet, but then again, maybe for once I should be.

I'm having a hard time seeing the Halloween displays - I don't want summer to be over. The chill in the air makes it undeniable that Fall is here, but Christmas? I really can't think about that yet.

janeAnne - yeah, and it seems to get earlier every year. I am NEVER prepared for it.

Rebecca - clearly I do not get out and into the stores enough. Perhaps if I did I would not have been so taken back.

Joan - and I suspect it started right after Labor Day, too.

Lisa - well didn't you read? LOL.  It was the RAIN, which we haven't had for over 6 months.

Jane - yep, all sorts of excitement. I think what was the big surprise was that it was getting to be that time of year again and the realization of how fast time is passing.

William - nah, I ALWAYS put it off as long as I can.

Jim - I'm not sure that making it earlier makes a difference. If people want it they will buy whether it's 4 months in advance or not. But perhaps I don't get the holiday marketing psyche.

Judy - and I groaned when I walked in and saw it.

Tom - I am NEVER ready for it as early as the retailers think I should be. And now the onslaught of holiday catalogs - dozens every week.

Monika - it's depressing that summer is over. And you are right, much more chill in the air here too, at night and in the mornings.
