Dog A Bit Fat After This Hot Summer? I have a solution!

If your dog is carrying a few extra pounds after this long hot TX Summer, then I have a safe easy solution.

Exercise is the best option, but a chunky dog may still want to eat more than they should.

GREEN BEANS, will fill the pooch up and have very low calorie content.

The key to adding any veggie to your dog's diet is moderation.   Use canned green beans and drain the water from the can, rinse twice to get the salt out.  Then add to your dog food while reducing the kibble.

I also give green beans as treats instead of high calorie treats.  My dogs will sit, stay, go outside, lay down anything for one of those canned green beans!  Keep them in a zip lock bag in the fridge, they love them.

Try it, and do not worry about gas-- they do not cause gas in most dogs.

Hi Melissa - Now that is a handy tip.  Who would have thought of that.  My dogs and some of my cats have loved most veggies, but I had one dog who refused to eat peas.  If there were peas in his food, he would lift them out and after his meal there would be a little row of clean peas on the floor next to his bowl.  I don't know how he did it - he never even smashed any of them.

Susan,

Your dog just didn't like peas, like most kids, how cute!

My baby girl, Carmen, does not like green beans unfortunately.  But we found some treats today with antioxidants and more vitamins.  Better than what she has been eating as treats.  I wish she would like green beans.  Thanks for the tip.

Hi, Melissa:

We had a vegetable garden when I was growing up, and our German shepherds used to circle around it, waiting for us to throw them the occasional green bean. They loved carrots, too, but tended to barf them up.

Cheers,

Robin
