Trulia logo

I think this could be a really cool feature.  Trulia provides a map that can be embedded on your website.  All you have to do is provide the RSS feed for your listings and it gets automatically updated when new listings get added.  The colors and features can be customized to suit your website.

I am alway a little leary of giving my listing information away for others to use, but when I went and looked at the listings for my area, I found that coldwellbanker.com is already feeding them to Trulia!  Does anyone know of any negatives to doing this?  Anyone using the Trulia maps?  Are you using them in innovative ways?  If so, please add your links to the comments as I would love to see what people are doing with them.

JOANNE:

Have you looked at Lenn Harley's web site?  She has some great looking maps, and I was wondering about how she did them.  Could they be Trulia?  I've also wondered about all the beautiful homes she talks about there, if she is purely a Buyer's Agent, where do these homes show up?

I have seen them on her blog, but they don't look like this.  Her maps are wonderful, even better than trulia!  I think Lenn probably has an IDX site and perhaps she gets permission from listing brokers to post the specifics of them.  Maybe Lenn will see this and respond!

The new high tech stuff coming out, each and every day, is quite amazing.

It would be awesome to have maps on our sites.  Maybe the AR Gods could figure out a way, instead of the awful ones on Localism....

Joanne, thanks for the tips, I have not used trulia, I have just heard about it and saw it some sites, :) thanks again.

I was thinking to have it on my other blog and/or my website.  I do have to say that on Localism.com, when you go to the Keystone, Colorado map, it is actually a map of Telluride, at the other end of the state!  Otherwise I don't find the maps too bad.

Joanne, Trulia is fantastic! Great comments!

I feel that the maps are a positive for agents to add to their sites but to address your other concern, releasing your listing information to other companies. If it is free and a reputable company I think it is a win. I have commented before that we are seeing a rise in searches for addresses as a method of home buyers looking for listings. With this in mind, by getting your listings with companies trying to raise their page ranks on their own you will win as well. Great article about embracing new technology.

Thanks Stuart.  The more information we give our clients the better of we are, so long as it is accurate.
