Are you part of the NAR group on LinkedIn?  National Assn of REALTORS®

You have to give them your NRDs # and wait for them to admit you to the group?  Or maybe that was on Facebook. I know I was annoyed but it is a group just for NAR members.

The people moderating the NAR group have got their work cut out for them.

Members (12,928)

With less than 13,000 members in the group but getting close,  a number of the National Association group members believe the purpose of the LinkedIn group is to post their listings.

Kind of "as if" a group on LinkedIn could be the national MLS that some are sure is just what the world needs because surely if YOU (each and every you out there)  get wind of a hot listing in Hoboken YOU going to help get that home sold!

flood of listings

That's Gary Rogers president of the Massachusetts Association of REALTORS® and one of the moderators of National Assn of Realtors group on LinkedIn.

Sure enought the group's rules say don't post listings.

DO NOT post any of the following - if you do, you risk getting your membership in the group revoked:

1. Specific properties for sale.

2. "Business opportunity" spam - "I found a great web site called www.getrichonline.com - go check it out."

3. Untargeted requests to link-in. "I accept all linked in invitations."

4. Sales pitches to other Realtors.

My solution... send the offenders to ActiveRain to post their listing.  Here's an Invitation:

Dear LinkedIn National Assn of REALTORS® group member,

You want to post listings to NAR member across the country? Why?  The real estate professionals who have access to the MLS in your market know about the property. Those group members outside your market are just annoyed by your posting it to a group that is all REALTORS®.

Why not post your listing to consumers via ActiveRain / Localism?  There's a place for listings on ActiveRain. ActiveRain is not just for talking to other real estate professionals.

Join ActiveRain

You are going to want to post the listings in the correct category of course... but why not?

I'll post a tutorial on how to post your listings to ActiveRain / Localism soon... it's a piece of cake and Google will pick it up.  Much better than posting listings on a private group on LinkedIn.

Sincerely,

Maureen

Maureen, good idea!  Why would you post a listing that is invisible to the rest of the world and that the people in the group can already see?  Weird!

I guess we can all see the listings on REALTOR.com but do we care?  If it is in our market we can see it on MLS with a lot more detail.  If it is outside the area we sell there is going to be only so much interest.  The NAR group on LinkedIn IS FOR TALKING to other REALTORS®

One of the funniest things I ever saw was a real estate agent admonishing a FSBO advertising his home in a local tech group on LinkedIn that it was not the place to advertise anything.

I had missed the rules in the group, not that I would post lisitings to any group on LinkedIn that I am aware of.

I am not a big fan of LinkedIn.  I saw a member of the group complain and Gary Rogers commented that there are moderators.  That was the first time I was aware they were deleting the listings as fast as they are being put up.

Hi Maureen~ I have noticed that too and wondered what was going on with it.  I guess once someone starts it, everyone else thinks it is ok?  I would hate to be monitoring that group!  You would be deleting all day!

I am sure that is what is happening Vickie, their listings are in our mailboxes and if we were trying to figure out what is appropriate for the group (and NOT reading directions... I did NOT) we might be guilty of the same  faux pas.

Maureen,

I ended my blog post syndication to LinkedIn, because it seemed one-sided, like spamming.

"Mike J just posted some lame stuff about MLS photos."  Same with Twitter.  I don't get the need to splatter listings anywhere one can.  Shouldn't we be looking for appropriately targeted marketing venues, instead of littering the countryside, bawling, "Hey!  Look at me!

Jeeze, look at all the groups on AR that have been overwhelmed by listings when in a few words the group guidelines say "No Listings."

I try not to post anything that is for consumers to groups, so listings would definitely be something I'd never post to an AR group.  AR groups are for talking to one another.  I don't have a lot of patience for most AR groups.

Maureen,  Thanks for posting.  I haven't looked at Linkin much, but this background info is helpful.

Now this is about Facebook not LinkedIn.

Someone in the discussion there says of Facebook  "I found new tool from NAR seemylistings.com for FB only."  The person says putting listings on Facebook any other way than linking to the listing on Realtor.com is a licensing law violation and /or a code of ethics violation.

Wouldn't that be peachy if they could convince all NAR members that they to link to the listing on Realtor.com for the listing to not violate law.
