It's always fun to visit my old home where I lived until going away to college.  Back in 1963, one of my jobs was to release the windmill brake to pump water for the livestock.  When I returned last month, I was amazed to see that the windmill is still there and it continues to pump away.  These days, a new generation of windmills is sprouting up to generate electricity instead of merely pumping water.

Richard - That is very cool stuff.  I don't know if I have ever even seen a functioning windmill up close.

Richard,

I know you lived in the Crofton MD area for a while. Where was growing up though?

Hi Richard,

Ok, you've sparked several questions here by posting this:

Where did you grow up?  This farmhouse looks still well maintained, does some of your family still own it?

Is the windmill still used to pump water for livestock or just for looks?

This is a great looking place!  Tell us!!

Love the house!  You didn't say where it was though?

Hi all.  I grew up in farm country in Illinois in a tiny place called Kinderhook.  My graduating HS class was somewhere around 20 as I recall.  In my Senior year, we moved to the farm in the picture and I spent summers there while in college.  My sister lives there now and loves to garden.  I'm not sure how often she uses the windmill but it's still in good condition.

Aloha from Hawaii. Since making the move from an area where Winter meant it was cold and snowy to one where it means rains sometimes last 15 minutes instead of 5, I've made other changes as well including moving from an engineering management position to a real estate professional. I enjoy change and both have been good. I use my blog to discuss most anything relevant to the Hawaii real estate market and my new profession including tips, local information, Hawaiian lifestyle, and embracing change.
