Fall Snow in Central Oregon; photo by Lisa Broadwater

From 90 degrees and sunny to the year's first snow (early even for Central Oregon!) -- in the blink of an eye! What happened to Indian Summer? Really?  Snow already??  The picture is beautiful and serene, but it is much too early for that white stuff.

Hi Lisa,

Beautiful photo!  It's hard to believe that during Indian Summer you have had your first snow!  Thanks for sharing!

Wow! What a surprise that must have been. I'm not ready for that much white yet. Stay warm!

Hello Lisa, that is quite the change in temperature and scenery!  On the We(s)t side of the Cascades I saw that Mt. St. Helens just got it's second dusting of snow (first was on Labor Day weekend) but some clouds messed up my chance of a good photo today.  Thanks!  John

Lisa - And this weekend, we're headed up to the mountain lakes to enjoy a final run on the boat while it's still 70 degrees before hauling it down until next season. Go figure!

I never knew it could snow so early in Oregon until I lived in Bend for 2 years. It's pretty though.

I love it!  It is one of the reasons that I love our state.  I can go to the coast for beautiful weather, or the mountains for snow.  Or...I can stay right here in the Portland Metro area and enjoy the brisk morning with falling leaves crunching the ground as cars pass by my local Starbucks.  :)  Beautiful photo by the way!

Hi everyone -- I'm from the South, where 30-degree temperature variables are unheard of and October snows impossible, so this is a fascinating phenomenon to me. This week, we've had gorgeous sunny 65-degree days and stay-warm-by-the-fire 30-degree nights. (Today, I photographed a beautiful fog-laden sunrise that will appear in a later post.) The best of both worlds, no?
