Hi Sharon,

I took this a few weeks ago from the National Cemetery here. There is a lookout point and I crawled right up there and the ship was leaving port. It took about 15 minutes to get to where I could get a clear shot. Right behind the Carnival cruise ship , in what looks to be an airport runway, is actually the North Island Naval Base. Doing well and hope you are as well.

Wonderful picture William!  You just keep getting better and better with that camera of your's.  The size of that cruise ship really is put into perspective by having the harbor in the background.  It provides a great sense of scale.

Shucks Myrl, you're making me blush. I must say it is getting more fun. I have another photo to put on tonight, the one I told you about. My new friend from Tahoe. It is wonderful, and I can't wait till 8:00PM to add it in the mix. I love the photo. There is just something about it.

Hi Jef, Many Thanks. It did come out rather neat looking. Never figured I would get so much color with the new circular Polaroid filter to cut the reflection down. Actually , I hadn't thought of that, changing photos every day. Doubt I have enough photos of me anyway. Seems to me that you are the one with all the photos. But you photograph well and I don't. Someone suggested that the photos of me come just fine, it is actually me with the problem, LOL.

William, Great shot.. so glad that you live where interesting opportunities abound... I changed my photo out a few times and someone told me that they were sure glad that they knew where to find me because they couldn't go by the photo... since it had changed several times... I think it's fun to change them out but I can't get happy with anything, do not photograph well... always come back to the one in the blue suit.

Hi Judi, Thank You. It is fun for me to discover in photos what for so long I had just assumed no one cared about. Once we do the intentional photos, things start to look different. And then we show up when something is happening like a cruise ship departing and it just makes it all the more special. It will take a few years before I even get close to capturing most of San Diego. Regretfully,  also have to work for a living and photography is just a pleasure  that I try to fit in.

I know what you mean about your professional photo. LOL. This one of you is my favorite. Beside it makes you look like the really happy person that you naturally are.

Woo Hoo, Until I get the my professional pick rescanned, I am stuck with something out of my pictures that have enough pixels. Before I moved over to the mac, I had to reduce the size of the photos when I ran out of hard drive space. So what transferred over, including all my professional photos are too small now. I do have the originals somewhere around here and will scan and re-enter. Till then, it is William the Photographer, I am afraid. I hope you will come back over in a little bit. I am about to put up a picture of a litle friend I made in Tahoe.

William,

Great panorama. I read the comments, so I know how you made it, as it puzzled me initially. Those huge ships are so magnificent

William,

That just brings back some really great memories.  My wife is very sick right now, with cancer and not doing so well - the last vacation we had, just before the cancer spread, was in January 2006 on a Carnival Cruise Liner...It will always be remembered as the best vacation of my life.

Thanks for sharing this.

John

Hi William,

Wow, what a spectacular photo of your beautiful San Diego! How in the world do you get so many of them? I read it's from the Nat'l Cemetary, you must mean Pt. Loma, correct? It's such a moving place to be.

Hi Jon, I was a long ways from where the ship was. I used the 300 mm telephoto lens from a lookout point while photographing our magnificent national cemetery. Downtown id around or around the naval base peninsula. The ship moves slowly through these waters but it was worth the wait to get this photo of the cruise liner from this perspective.

Hi Lynda, Yep, that's where it is, just before you get to abrillo National Monument. I tool some new updated pictures as well as at the cemetary. On the west side at the most sothern point, I took new pictures of the Golden Cliffs of Point of Loma. Having seen the entire coastline by now, I had never seen these particular cliffs before. Here is a photo of them.

Hi Yvette and Dennis, I crawled down over the edge and found a safe place to stand. Good Observation though. People have no idea what it takes to get some of the more complex pictures. But I was so pleased when I saw the results.

Hi Karen, I was so lucky to have been there when this ship was passing through. Lots of ships and lots of ports but to be able to be high up above and then get the city in the background was a lucky shot. Thanks for noticing.
