There will be another onslaught of news reports about the Swine Flu / H1N1 soon.
Why?
Because the news had a flurry of them during the Spring, and it was "predicted" that the Swine Flu / H1N1 would come back for a second wave in fall.
Fall . . . you don't say? Another wave of INFLUENZA in the Fall??? WHOA . . . who would have thunk!? FALL . . . which is . . . wait for it . . . wait for it . . . traditionally our flu season.
A regular bunch of Nostradumas' in our midst!
I'm not going to suggest anyone NOT get the shot. And, I'm not going to suggest to anyone that they should.
I, will however, NOT be getting a flu shot -- if anyone cares to know my personal decision. There it is.
Why?
Because I've had the flu before. Various types, and yup it's death-warmed over. The body aches, or the nausea . . . or both . . . and it's awful.
But, I believe, as does Fellow-Rainer Terry Chenier that the population MOST vulnerable are: the elderly, those who already suffer with illness, pre-existing health concerns that are respiatory in nature, infants/small children. There is NOTHING medically new about the group who are, and will be, the most affected. Older people, and younger people. Older with their immune systems, well -- aging. And younger people that haven't DEVELOPED a very strong immune system yet.Swine Flu Over-Hyped?
Some health care providers also are saying it's "okay" for PREGNANT WOMEN to get the shot. Yeah, they also said that about the "Morning Sickness Pill" . . . Thalidomide. For those of you who don't know about "Thalidomide" or who have forgotten: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thalidomide
If I were pregnant, I WOULD NOT TAKE THE SWINE FLU VACCINE!
There is a HIGH LEVEL of MERCURYin the vaccines. Mercury is a poison. It can cause neurological disorders. High levels of Mercury is linked to AUTISM.
Carla - EXCELLENT ADVICE! My son is autistic and I am a true believer it was caused by mercury. It was injected into my son 23 times before he started Kindergarten. Mercury was banned from consumer products, but managed to slip into our vaccines to be used as a preservative. I could stand on a soapbox about this one! Needless to say, my son and I will NOT be getting a flu shot. Thanks for sharing!
Hi Ellen -- Yes, the scare of Y2K. The only difference is that the New Year 2000 didn't bring on adverse health issues. I do believe the media is so full of . . . hype.
LINA -- 23 TIMES!! OMIGOSH, the sweet heart!! I have mercury fillings, and this is why I'm a Mad Hatter (and Lewis Carroll has been WARNING us of Mercury POISON for . . . years!!!!)
I am pregnant and have already had 2 different doctors try to push the vaccine on me, both this one and the "regular" flu shot. I will not be getting either, because I don't feel like they're safe - too many unanswered questions and too mant ingredients that I do not want to put into my body.
I was also very suprised at the amount of shots now reccomended for, and routinely given to, young children, and the fact that most contain mercury and other toxins, and the fact that most doctors will not really warn you about the potential side effects, or the deaths and permanant disabilities that have been caused by many of these shots.
I'm "on the fence" about vaccinating at all right now, but if I do, I will be insisting on a delayed vaccination schedule and individual, organic and mercury/preservative free, shots for my children rather than multi-druf cocktails and several shots at once.
I got the regular flu shot. I get it every year and have yet to get the flu. (knock on wood) Everyone around me seems to get sick every year. I hope my luck holds again this year.
I am not anti-vaccines in general. I do think MMR and other vaccines do more good than harm overall. However, they have been tested for years. I am wary about a vaccine that was just created. How can we be sure of its safety. Also, as you know, I am not convinced that this flu is any worse than any other flu season and I have never been vaccinated for flu in the past. My only ambivalence is for my children. I would never forgive myself if something happened to them regardless of whether I choose to have them vaccinated or not. Thanks for the link to my blog.
Hi Raine -- Did you watch the "NEW" video? And did you about the birth defects from the very safe "Morning Sickness" pill? And you're right to mention the mercury free, preservative free medications!! GOOD point. Enjoy your prenancy!! Don't stress!
Hey Debra -- the flu shots are fine, they've been around awhile. I don't get shots of any kind. But that's me. I will not get the Swine Flu/H1N1 at all.
Hi Stacey-Ann. . . I totally agree with you about MMR. And some would argue DPT is a harmful vaccine. I don't "prescribe" to that thinking :-) But, H1N1 is something else altogether.
Hi Matt . . . well, CT is the 29th most populated state in the Union. The population count is 3.5million (est. '08) . . . so that would be about, I'm not very good at math but <0.01%, and I'm not sure if that would rank epidemic. Just saying. KEEP STRONG MATT!
Carla, My husband is a retired dentist. He practiced for many years and never had a flu shot though he was up close and personal every day. I kind of agree that we are not sure on the safety of the shot. Good post.
Carla, my Pediatrician said that the public are going to be the 'guinea pigs' for the swine flu shot. It has not been tested. Thanks for this informative post and the videos.
25,000 times the safe level of mercury???????
Thanks to Active Rain for featuring this VERY IMPORTANT post in the daily newsletter, and thanks to you, Carla, for writing it.
I Will not be getting a flu shot either. At 29 and in shape, I assume that my immune system is strong enough to fight off the flu should I catch it. Besides, I've only had the flu once, and that was the one year my Mom made me get a flu shot.
Hi Jim -- my cat is SMUG . . . not devious. It's a SMUG look. Scroll up to the larger one. Ask BB (no relation to Broker Bryant) a question. SEE "that" look . . . he's smug!
Hey Marcia -- thanks for your comment. Geez, talk about being in a "face to face" business :-)
Hi Sharon . . . imagine that! 25,000 times! And that's probably why there are the allergic and adverse reactions. I'm TOTALLY allergic to Scallops. I eat them . . . one little bite . . . DEATH!! Not everyone is made the same, and we can have toxic reactions. Peanuts are banned in schools now, but not 25,000 times the safe level of mercury!! HMMMM . . . I didn't know this was a feature in a newsletter, thanks for letting me know. Thank you!
Howdy JL -- Oh, you healthy studmuffin YOU!! (And I read your post about swimming, you are your wife had a fun time down by the river!! That'll keep you in shape fer sure!)
I am 62, and get the flu every year. Just part of life. I eat right, and know how to help my immune sytem help it work itself out. I think this is better then putting a bunch of drugs in my system.
Jirius, I hope you don't mind, but you look GREAT!! 62, I'd never have guessed! Sometimes I get a mild cold, but I haven't had the hard-core flu is awhile (knock wood!)
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion on vaccinations and especially the H1N1 strain that has affected many people. I'm a big advocate for immunizations on the whole and, have in fact, been vaccinated against H1N1 yesterday. Sometimes it takes situations that are close to home to perhaps alter our beliefs; my great grandmother lost her life in 1918 to the Spanish flu pandemic that spread across Europe. She was a vibrant and healthy 33 year old woman in the prime of her life that lasted less than 24 hours from having contracted the virus. The Spanish flu is actually a sub-type of H1N1. I feel that I owe it to her memory to protect my family from this strain to affect any more of our family. This is just my opinion and research does show that we, as a society, have been much healthier and live longer lives since the introduction of immunizations and the production of vaccines.
Don -- That's an amazing story. You KNEW your great-grandmother in 1918. WOW. She was vibrant and healthy . . . my dead relatives WERE ALL vibrant and healthy too, I suspose. Not that I knew any of them from 1918 . . .
Yes, it does sometimes take situations that are "close to home" to alter our beliefs. And a woman dying in 1918 from the Spanish flu . . . yeah I can certainly see how that is ONE, BIG HUGE close to home event that can easily alter ANYONE's belief.
I agree. Yes, let's all protect the memory of an epidemic that was almost 100 years old. And we'll be ever vigilant that "Any more of our family" will be spared.
By the way, medical science was in the freaking DARK AGES in 1918 compared to present day, so with all due respect . . .
. . . now THAT was a flu -- now THAT WAS an epidemic. And I seriously doubt the Spanish flu took a summer vacation in between spring flu season and fall flu season.

Sort of like Y2K. Nothing happened then either. Maybe just a diversion to take our minds off the the economy.
