My answer would be almost never... and constantly.

A couple of times per year I try to break away from the machines and enjoy a little real off-time.  Not much... just a few days here and there.  Heck, I've been known to work through issues while waiting my turn on the Rockin' Roller Coaster at Disney Studios...

At the same time, I also step out of "business mode" all of the time.  I play with the kids, get into the garage... generally spend a little of my day acting retired.  of course I make up for that with 2:00am blog writing and emailing.

But the question is...

How often do you unplug?

What is your favorite way to unplug?

What do you consider unplugging?

I turn off the phone every night, and don't turn it back on until I get up....   Sleep time is my time, other than that, I'm happy to work and take calls just about anytime....  I just don't want to be bothered when I'm trying to sleep....

I unplug every Tuesday morning and watch my 2 1/2 year old granddaughter. I turn it back on Tues, evening. I enjoy every second with her - knowing the years go by so fast and I will never have this opportunity again when she starts school in a few years. I make up for Tuesdays by working longer hours the rest of the week - especially Mondays and Wednesdays (lol).

We've worked long and hard to get to the point where we have a great staff that allows us to unplug without feeling guilty.  In the summer we unplug weekly... in the winter a little less, as we don't spend as much time outdoors.

I'm gonna have to work on that.  I only unplug before I go to bed, and plug back in upon awakening.  I do love it though - and that's important  - to love what you do.

I have not had enough down time this year and I feel it.  I do take my waterside walks daily but I need a week off with no distractions!

I'm geting to a point to where i tunr off my phone at 08:00, and stay off the computer. It seems the reenergize my brain for the next day. I have also learned to turn off my phone when i play golf. It's a game that requires concentration. if you don't want to focus on golf, then stay in the office.

Every day from 5:00 until 8:30 or 9:00 pm when the kids go to bed.  It took me years to master it.  I'm disciplined as all get out.  No wavering here.

I take church, family, and fishing time off every week, unfortunately, the fishing time has been the least honored of the three but the other two have been reserved to keep me sane, married, and refreshed!

Unplug?  Can you do that?  I'm awful at shutting down, so I'm up too early in the morning and too late at night trying to get it all done.  The only way I truly unplug is to leave the country and we haven't done that this year.

Tuesday afternoon is my time and I try to have a date night once a week.

I am a random unplugger, but unplug I do or else I'd burn out! Yesterday I took a couple of hours with my daughter to go shopping. If I don't have an appointment on the weekend I try to take a day and not think about real estate (except to visit AR of course), but that's really hard. It is usually the afternoon of one day through the morning of the next, but it does help recharge my energy for real estate and life. Great question, Lane.

I used to pull out a vinyl album and require myself to listen to it from beginning to end! The hiss, just seemed to make me relax, but since having kids, that much time alone in a room is not possible. I know like to challenge them on the Wii to a little Guitar Hero!
