The Lazy Agent Series: #1

By
Real Estate Agent with United Realty Group, Inc. BK641413

I'm sure all of us have our pet peeves about the MLS and what we see (or don't see) on it.  I'm starting a series of posts which I've decided to title "The Lazy Agent" to illustrate some of the things that I see on the MLS that just make me shake my head and think to myself "What were they thinking?".  I hope you'll come along with me for the ride.  I promise it'll be an interesting, if not funny (albeit sad) one.

Below is a photo I found recenlty that just makes you wonder why the agent bothered to not only take it in the first place, but to actually include it with the listing.

               Cluttered stairway

Let's take a vote.  On a scale of 1-10 with 1 being "not so bad" to 10 being "the worst", how would you rate this photo, keeping in mind the title of this series (The Lazy Agent).

That looks like a teenaged daughters handbag carelessly left on the bannister.  It's pretty far away, but I think that I see makeup stains all over it.  I missed that- thanks for pointing it out!  Leanne, could you call the listing agent for us and find out what that is?

First of all why would anyone want to see a staircase!!! and besides that a cluttered one. I give it a 9 but still one why they eveb took it and you can say at least the hangbag and shoes give you a reason to even look at it LOL  and you can see it Trust me i have seen some pics on MLS that are so blurry you cant read them or they are stretched so bad you feel like your looking in a mirror at the carnival...

Its a bad stupid picture :)

Craig & Amber - now that's what I call creative thinking!

Gregory - since the top part of the photo is dark, I know it's hard to tell, but that's actually the handrail that takes over where the banister ends at the ceiling level.

laurie - sure thing, laurie.  NOT!

Sue - sad, isn't it? ...that this will likely be an ongoing series about something that shouldn't even be an issue, yet it is for anyone who uses the MLS or is buying/selling property.

Reminds me of a guy I used to know who had piles of underwear all over his apartment. He left them where he took them off. Looked like land mines. (Everybody down)

I agree with Rita - a 10 is no picture; and 9 is one picture - so I would give this an 8.  Great idea, I will be watching the pictures on my MLS more closely.  I showed an agent's home once and my buyers noticeed her signs in the garage and we realized it was her home - definitely had some issues and their comment was - how that this person guide sellers to keep their home ready to show.  So, you might think, this agent did not think it out of the ordinary. . .

so does my buyer have to fill out a personal property addendum to get the bag and flip flops included?

Jim - ...and that reminds me of "ugly naked guy" in the Friends TV show.

Cathy - there will always be people (agents included) who think buyers should be able to overlook their mess; or they just don't care.

Jennifer - ...or maybe the listing info should say "bag and shoes not included".  :-)

Maybe this photographer (agent) needs to go to some kind of Staging 101 class. Hey, whatever happened to common sense? Not so common I guess.

Leanne - Wow this is an old post. I would have to give this agent an 8 on the lazy scale. To earn a 9 or 10 in my opinion the agent has take all of the photo without getting out of their car. 10 is for those agents that not only do not get out of the car, but get a photo of a portion of the car in the photo.

Ok I have a good one.  How about this.  It says there are like 10-15 pics of the house on the MLS.  You click and the pics are of

Front of the house 2 same pics

Side of the house 3 same pics

Other side of the house

Street view of the house

Close up pic of the house

What are agents thinking!!!  My clients skip right over that one..

This is definitely a 10.  Not only is it a stupid picture with all the clutter, I can't believe they didn't have a better picture of of a room.  Who wants to see the stairs?
