Padddling in the Dark - What a Great Adventure!
I am very lucky to live in such a diverse area of wonderful, entertaining things to do!!
Empire Kayaks located in Island Park offers great guided tours. On a recent evening tour we paddled through the bay to dinner, and back. The weather could not have been more spectacular.
We started our adventure around 6:00 pm. There was a group of about 30. Michael and Gabby (the store owners )along with other guides escorted us through the bay. Long Beach was to our South as we paddled past beautiful homes and saw a magnificent sunset! After paddling for about 45 minutes we arrived at Jordan Lobster Farm in Island Park.
Here everyone piled out for some outstanding seafood - my favorite is the crab cakes with sweet potatoe french fries. Jordans has a great take out menu and an outdoor eating area to accomodate diners -perfect for a warm summer evening. Their specialty is lobster, but they offer a wide variety of seafood both wholesale and retail.
After a great meal we all piled back into our kayaks. By now it was completely dark - but the full moon provided a perfect backdrop for us. Glow in the dark sticks hanging from our life vests allowed us to be easily spotted. It was a very quiet evening - as you looked ahead you saw the glow sticks zig zagging across the water as we made our way back to Empire Kayaks. It was a great evening!
