Is your website "Gorgeously Bland"?

By
Real Estate Agent with Select Homes & Services

I love this term,"Gorgeously Bland"...I heard it this morning and realized the words alone pack a lot of punch!

Here is a great question for you to ask yourself...

If you changed the name of your company on your web site to that of your biggest competitor would anyone really notice? Do you share their language? When you write in media-speak you do not differentiate your company from anybody else. You are marketing yourself in the same way as everyone else, if that is true then you are trying hard to be average!

Your website should be content rich and easy to navigate. When you have a website that is picture rich and word poor chances are you are not getting the exposure you need to drive traffic to your website. Although images are wonderful and people love to see them, most will base their choice on the content on your website. Even more than that Google doesn't care about your pictures when ranking your website in the search engines. Describing what you do and how you do it will have a much greater impact not only on your clients but traffic to your website. You can achieve all the things by offering the potential client generous amounts of information on your website. Potential new clients are looking for information, something to make them more interested in your company and they need something to make them be reassured of, and desirous for, your services. So let them know what DOES set you apart.

There are many different ways a home stager can give a detailed description of things we do to change the look of a home for sale in the real estate market. Write them down, your potential client will love hearing all your ideas and so will you when Google starts ranking you high in the search engines!

Here's to a successful and prosperous week for all of us!

I have to say I like that term, "gorgeously bland": May just have to use that once in a while ;)  As for websites, what bugs me most is when Stagers simply use the formats given by their training company and use stock photography that all looks the same ~ too bad for them.  But my BIGGEST pet peeve is when Stagers use photographs of homes or work that was not done by them. One such Stager in my area had a wonderful site with tons of pictures (& no content) of pictures that obviously were scanned right out of magazines - the worst!

I am in agreement with everything Connie said.  I do love the term "gorgeously bland" and will keep it in mind when working on my new website.

I also share Connie's disdane for websites that use stock photos from training companies or glorious "after" photos that were obviously copied from a magazine.  The dead give away of the latter is not having any "before" photos to go with the fabulous "afters."

As stagers, we are paid for our creativity and it should reflect in all aspects of our work.

Thanks for the comments Ladies. I personally like to show my before/after portfolio while I am with the client so I can take them on each homestaging individual journey personally and explain how the choices I made for a particular home work and how. You'd be suprised at how some people react negatively to a before and after simply because they do not UNDERSTAND what home staging is... Personally from my website I like to show exquiste afters and good advice/ideas. I believe that if you become a resource for people that they will ultimately end up choosing you as the homestager as well as send others to your website. My husband and I own several business and I am so blessed that one is a website developement company. So, many times I see things a little different than most. I have the abilty to see how traffic is driven and what people like and don't like. How you choose to drive traffic and what you want your website to portray is an individual choice. I don't like seeing the cookie cutter websites either...they ALL look the same and rarely distinguish one from the other. Hope everyone has a great week!
