Geckos are everywhere!!!

I am down in Florida on vacation this week.  I haven't been in a truly tropical locale since we lived in Hawaii many moons ago.  There are many things that I miss from Hawaii, but hadn't given one thing a second thought until arriving in Florida - GECKOS!

geckos

They really are so very cute. They can be unnerving at times when they dart out in front of you while walking or suddenly seeing something dash across the ceiling overhead.  I know that they are harmless and are actually much more afraid of me than I am of them, but they can be startling nonetheless.

When we lived in Hawaii, I remember cleaning up plenty of gecko tails - what they shed when they are afraid.  I also picked up my share of gecko "droppings" that seemed to be everywhere.  The pay off though is the low bug count whenever the geckos were around.  For that reason alone I loved them!

It has been fun to watch my daughter's reaction to the geckos too!  She and her grandfather go out gecko watching for fun in the afternoon.  What a fun way to spend time with someone!  I hear her squeals of delight when she spots another one or when one sccots quickly across the path in front of her.

All of these geckos have brought back some fun memories from our time in Hawaii.  It has been fun to get reaquainted with the little guys.  If you have not seen a gecko in person - they really are as cute as the commercial.

Hi Sheila,  When geckos are "in season" in Mesa, Arizona, my male cat loves to go outside and chase the geckos in the backyard.  He brings them inside to show them off.  I'm always rescueing them and putting them back outside so they have a chance to run off. I often find one running up the familyroom wall that has gotten away from him.

Sheila...I luv 'em too.  When we have tenants in our Hawaii condo we make sure that they're aware that the geckos are our friends.  They can gently place them outside but they are not to hurt them.  They make me smile!

Sheila, When I first came to Naples 17 years ago, I had never seen a gecko and I used to jump when I saw one.  I have actually had some living in my house and now they are like little bets.  Geckos need love too!

Kay - it is impossible to want to harm them - they are so cute.  They freaked me out when I first saw them again, but they fade into the surroundings very quickly.  Thanks for stopping by!

Ginger - Hawaii was my first experience with geckos and I just love them.  Love your picture!  Thanks for sharing it.

Marcia - I couldn't agree more.  I have really enjoyed my stay in your beautiful city.  Thanks for commenting!

Thanks Patsy - I had a great vacation and the geckos sure did beat the baby snake in the pool and the frogs hanging out on the stairwell at night.  They really are cute!  So glad you stopped by!
