U.S. economy blog

We all know the United States economy has taken a hit these last couple years which has directly affected the housing market.  Recently within the last few months however there have been different observations within the markets across the country.  Steve Morris, founder and CEO of Exit Realty predicted a change to occur in 2009; thankfully it looks as if this prediction is coming to life.  According to a headline in the Exit Recruiter, a publication by Exit Realty Corp, International, "the storm has passed...the recession is ending!!!"

alamo cityI for one agree for the most part with Mr. MorrisThe great Alamo city of San Antonio has seen some very impressive improvements, especially over the last few months.  Home sales have seen a rises in numbers such as 9.6% in July alone in the greater San Antonio area; a stat not to take lightly.  The affordability of homes seem to be in its prime leading to six consistant months of a rise in pending home sale contracts.  In San Antonio alone, the market has seen upward trends in home sales for the last four straight months before August.

San Antonio doesn't appear to be the only region experiencing improvements in its market.  In the word's of Exit Corp's President in the United States region, "we are definitely starting to see an upward swing in the majority of the country."  Despite the slight set back in August in home sales, the National Association of Realtors is still declaring the annual number of transactions to meet the anticipated 4.9-5.2 million transaction mark.  Considering the past years such as '07 and '08 compared to 2009, I would say these are improvements that should be warmly welcomed and recognized.

The median income is being estimated to be $53,182; meaning nearly 75% of all homes being listed is affordable for the general public.  Unfortunately this piece of information is not commonly known in the public. middle class family

Another tremendous aid in the recovery that cannot be ignored is the buyer tax credit, and we need to extend it!  The market has largely scene improvements due to this tax credit, but still not enough people are aware of it.  In the blog link above is another link to submit your plea or wish to extend the tax credit.  We need everyone's help in this, and it will only take a minute out of your day.

I thought these words of Steve Morris were so inspiring.  "The shock of the storm is over; the resulting recession is now ending. A brand new beginning is at hand."

As realtors, it is time for us to show America its strength and true American spirit of entrepreneurialism by restoring confidence to our communities.  We are a highly people oriented business which gives us a advantage in accomplishing the restoration of the faith in Americans and the American dream of home ownership.

In the words of Steve Morris, "recovery will be inch by inch....all stabilization must be deliberate."

I am not afraid that the recession will continue, but that rampant inflation will take hold.

We mave see a recovery in the coming months but it is probably going to be slow.  Taxes will increase and inflation will come.  We can't continue to spend money that must be created by the treasury without tax and inflation consequences.

I agree that it will be slow as well.  I'm not saying we are out of the thick of it; we clearly have a ways to go.  As it said above it will be a inch by inch process.  It will take all our efforts as a whole to accomplish our goals.

I agree...that if the tax credit were to be extended we'd see more improvement in the housing market.... on another note...the lending criteria is changing day to day and if a buyer were well qualified before...they are throwing curve balls to no end. Makes for a secure borrower and loan though.....

Celeste- I agree the lending criteria will prove difficult to overcome, but that is where we as a group step in to help one another.  Our close associates are going to be our best friends as well look for help and consultation during this time.

Judy- Thank you for your kind words. We are all going to need to help one another to dig us out of this.

I like the cartoon.  I too hope the storm has passed.  You have very positive news. I'm not sure our market is completly out of the storm but here's to positive thinking!

Thank you I thought it was entertaining as well.  San Antonio has not dug itself out either, but as least we can say that we have taken steps in the right direction.
