That 's right . The number one rule of sales is to just  do something. Many agents sit back waiting for that something to fall in their lap.  Some get lucky. Most don't.

The next time you find yourself playing the blame game, procrastinating, or searching for an excuse to avoid what you know you ought to be doing.....tell yourself no way...then go out and pick an action. Doesn't matter what it is .....just Do something!

Here are a few actions I choose from when blame time or slump periods hit:

  • Look through all the notes on your computer, your cell, and on your desk. There is money in them thar scraps of paper.  Names , leads, dollars!
  • Start calling your SOI..   Pick 2 or 3 each morning and just call them and touch base.
  • Do a quick target mailing to an area you have never worked before.
  • Drive a different route to and from your office and destinations each day ....you might discover hidden treasure ( new FSBO's  ) you didn't know about.
  • Check expireds and withdrawns.
  • Check out  FSBO's in your local newspaper.....most will eventually call an agent. Why not be that agent?
  • Remember to put on name badge and keep it on.

I realize these actions seem like elementary things......but you would be surprised how many fail to do them. Don't fall into the trap of becoming complacent. Do something!

Trey, great advice!!  I think the reason I got out of a traditional office is because I got tired of hearing all the complaining when I felt they should just get out and do something.

Why Trey!  You mean there is more to being a Real Estate agent then just waiting for the phone to ring?

Those are great suggestions.  And you are right, many agents don't do any of them.  That's O.K. though.  Just means more business for me.

Hi Trey, For serious agents it is imperative to DO SOMETHING and not just wait for the phone to ring.

Trey,

As a child I was taught "when the going gets tough the tough get going!"

As a marine I was taught "when the going gets tough the tough get tougher!"

As a salesman I was taught "when the going get toughs the tough get back to basics!"

Your's are great basics!

  • "Look through all the notes on your computer, your cell, and on your desk. There is money in them thar scraps of paper.  Names , leads, dollars!
  • Start calling your SOI..   Pick 2 or 3 each morning and just call them and touch base.

  • Check expireds and withdrawns.

  • Remember to put on name badge and keep it on"
  • Well put.

Trey - You are so right, basics are so often overlooked. My husband has an expression that he uses on our children - "do something, even if it's wrong." They are teenagers, he better be careful what he asks for!

    Trey,

Any agent not generating business would do well to go through your list checking it off as they did it.  Great advice.

Great advice, Trey!  I just spent the last hour going back through my email and found lots of hidden treasures, or at least prospects I needed to follow up on.  So many leads, yet nobody doing much.

Trey - This is so funny because I was just talking with my Broker about this. We have so many LOs that are just waiting for Realtors to walk into the office and say 'hey, I have a loan for you'. You HAVE to get out, meet people, send newsletters, etc. As you said.. you have to 'Do Something'.

That's a great action list Trey. . .We all need to be reminded from time to time, that doing nothing shouldn't be an option if we want to remain successful.

Too many people think that the elementary things don't work anymore because they are so, well, elementary.
