With all the talk of identity theft today, do you ever wonder how vulnerable you really are to having your identity stolen? Radio and TV talk show host, Clark Howard says that the Identity Theft Resource Center is working with MyIDScore.com.  Log on and take a test to determine how high your risk of having your identity stolen really is.

Click on the check my ID score banner. It will ask you to enter some of your personal information. Entering your social security number is optional. You may get a more accurate reading if you do.

Scores range from 1 to 1000. 1 is the lowest. 1000 is the highest.  Anything over a 500 means you can be at high risk of having your identity stolen. Clark Howard says that if your score is over a 750 then freeze your credit report asap.

It's unfortunate that we have to pay $15 a month, just to know that our credit is protected.  If the government can't create a system that's secure, they should pay the monitoring fees for us.  That's a great subject.

Greg, Agreed and great point! It is truly sad that we have to pay to protect ourselves from theft!  Love the comment!

Sandy, I think with the prevalence of info on the Internet on so many of us that adds to the identity theft possibilities...

Hi Sandy, With all the password changes and secret questions - sometimes I have a difficult time proving that I'm really me LOL

Sandy...  Great info.  It's about the biggest hassle there is when it happens.  "They" have gotten me once, and my wife once.  Luckly, the cops stayed with it until they got the guy who stole my identity.  He's now serving time.  Interestingly enough though, neither of our problems were Internet-related.  Both our identities were stolen in two separate department stores.  So, who do you trust?!?

Sandy,

I have heard of people digging in your trash to steal credit card bills, bank statements, etc...

Some common sense steps can protect for less than $15 per month * get ALL mail as a post office box, NEVER fill out applications online and provide SS# and STOP all delivery of mail to a street address by putting in a forwarding address ANNUALLY * every year when I pay my po box rent I put in a USPS mail forwarding FROM my street address TO my post office box.....

I shake my head everytime I clean out a departed tenant's mail box and see the third class mail left there * mostly credit card offers....FORWARD ALL MAIL WHEN YOU MOVE!!!!

Gary, I think that today there is too much information about all of us available online.

Mary, Your comment made me laugh, as usual.  It is hard sometimes to remember all of our passwords.

Bill, Oh my gosh, that must have been a terrible experience for you and your wife.  Glad they got the guy.

Lou, It's scary today, isn't it?

Paul, It's a real shame, isn't it?  It seems we have to be so concerned about so many things.

Ann, That's terrible, isn't it.  I shred every piece of paper that goes out of my house.

Wallace, Thanks for the pointers to help protect us all.

Amy,  Your welcome. Always good info to have.

Sandy,

I have decided shredding is not enough so I am going to burn the stuff....to keep warm.

Ann, I have been reading your comments today and you just keep on making me laugh. I love it. Well, I think I'm going with your idea of just burning everything. But, I don't want to accidentally burn the house down. My second shredder this year has died. I just opened a new one-my third one this year. But, I paid more money for this one.
