The Woodlands Ace Hardware is located at the corner of Kuykendahl and Woodlands Parkway.  They have quickly become my favorite hardware store.   This is the second time that I have written a post about The Woodlands Ace Hardware.  You will find the first one at Ace Hardware in The WoodlandThe Woodlands Ace Hardware Customer Appreciation day with Randy Lemmons TX!!

We love our Woodlands  Ace Hardware and they also love us.  This last Saturday The Woodlands Ace Hardware had customer appreciation day.  I had went in on Friday to buy a package of Tortilla soup (you heard me right Tortilla soup) and the friendly gal behind the counter let me know that the next day was customer appreciation day and Randy Lemmon from Garden Line would be there for a book signing and to answer our questions.  She also told me a clown would be there for the children and the boy scouts would be cooking hot dogs.

I am a big fan of Randy Lemmon so I decided if I could go that I would.  We already have an autographed copy of Randy Lemmon's book so I just went for the fun of it.  If you have not listened to Garden Line you should check it out on Saturday and Sunday mornings.  He is on AM 740 and is on until 10:00 AM. That is a time I am often out showing houses and I have learned so much listening to his program.  I FINALLY decided to take his advice and do raised garden beds.  We have finished two beds with three more in the planning stages.  We used his recommendations from Gulf Coast gardening and the plants in the raised bed are The Woodlands Ace Hardware Customer Appreciation Day with Abby the monkeytwice the size of the same plants that are not in a raised beds.  I was surprised to see him at my local The Woodlands Ace Hardware but found that very cool as I love that store.   There was a line circling to the back of the store.  It appeared he had sold out all the copies of his book but everyone was in line with their problem plants in hand.

The Woodlands Ace Hardware has something for everyone so in not leaving the children out; they also had a clown with her monkey friend Abby.  I was TOTALLY enamored with Abby.  I have never paid much attention to monkeys but according to her owner someone forgot to tell Abby that she was a monkey.  Monkeys tend to have a reputation for being a little on the mean side but Abby is a jewel.  Her owner the clown was blowing up balloons and entertaining everyone with Abby all at the same time.  Abby's owner said she had 4 monkeys but the other three lived up to that mean reputation.  We lost our sweet chocolate Labrador named Abby this last January and Abby the monkey lived up to Abby's sweet loveable personality.  To see more pictures of sweet Abby please visit Speechless Sunday - Monkey See, Monkey Do!

The boy scouts participating at The Woodlands Ace Hardware Customer Appreciation DayIt was a beautiful day and the boy scouts were set up outside with a hot dog stand and sodas.  I love seeing the scouts involved in our community. There was also free popcorn on the inside as The Woodlands Ace Hardware has a pop corn machine for their customers.

I need to make a correction from my first post.  I had said that I thought The Woodlands Ace Hardware was a franchise.  I heard back from the owner and it is a coop.  This means that each store is independently owned.  The Ace Corporation is a privately held corporation which is actually owned by the store owners.  There are 4900 Ace stores and 2800 stockholder.  No matter how many stores you own you only get one vote.

I have been so pleased with our new The Woodlands Ace Hardware located just 5 minutes from where I live in Spring.  I use to yawn when my husband said he needed to go the hardware store but now 9 times out of 10 I tell him I will go along.  They are doing a great job of providing a wide assortment of items.  My husband can find sprinkler accessories for our sprinkler system while I am shopping for exotic spices and soups.  I just heard recently that most of their items are made in America.  I don't know how true that is I guess I need to check that one out with the owner of The Woodlands Ace Hardware.  That should be easy to do as I often see him in the store with a smile on his face servicing his customers.  I think Ace is the helpful Hardware Store!!

Hi Marchel, When I am driving on Saturday mornings I always enjoy listening to the local gardening show on the radio.  Woodlands Ace Hardware sounds great; I know my husband would love it!

Marchel I am sure the customers appreciated their special day.  But I still want to know about that package of Tortilla Soup from the hardware store.  Is it one of those store that sells everything?

Our local Ace Hardware stores have been undercut by Lowe's and Home Depot. So, there's not many around Colorado Springs any more. However, we go up to Grand Lake a lot and it is THE place to be. Yes, they have tortilla soup, and the pans to cook it in; the pot holders to remove it with; and the dishes to serve it with. They're extremely helpful, and very nice and friendly. I don't get that when I go to Lowe's and Home Depot.

Nice story, Marchel. Thanks.

Hi Marchel, I love our Ace Hardware Stores too!    Their service and friendliness is hard to beat. What a great write up for the one in Spring, it looks like there was a lot of fun during customer appreciation day!

Marchel, that Ace Hardware Store would also be one of my favorite stops if I lived over there.

Marchel we have an ACE Hardware here at Canyon Lake and it is the greatest. What is so nice everytime we go they always have the same employee's which is unheard of these days. Some of them have been there since they opened a few years back.  Ceil likes to go there shopping for unique gifts.

Hi Marchel, I commented about the  question you raised on Judi Barrett's post today. This is an excellent post and a nice community service in presenting it. I don't read this as an endorsement .  I read it as being pleased with a great store in your own community that most likely benefits any and all of the citizens who frequent it.

Hi Marchel,

What a fun day for all, I love places like this.  We too have an Ace hardware that I absolutely love in La Quinta, CA, a place where I spend a fair amount of time. I just love the place, the total opposite of a "big box" store!

You bought tortilla soup at your Ace Hardware? Hmmmmmm. I'm going to have to have a little discussion with the owners of our Hillcrest Ace Hardware. Maybe I can get them to sell margaritas and nachos! LOL

The Ace hardware store sounds like such a fun place.  I don't remember it being there when we lived in the Woodlands about 20 years ago.

SHIRLEY, I guess gardening shows must be the thing on Saturday mornings.

JENNIFER, It is the best tortilla soup.  I add cooked chicken and some Mexican corn and it is ready.  Oh and of course the tortilla chips.  They have lots of different types.  I guess I need to expand my horizons and try some of the others.  They also have lots of spices and other specialty type food items.

MARIANNE, We are so spread out in Texas that it gives Ace a chance.  I can get to Ace in 5 minutes and it would take me 20 minutes to Lowes and Home Depot. Time is money so you can guess where I go.  Well that and I love it.

MARY, This is a new Ace also.  It is great that there's still room for Mom and Pop Ace's in our area.

JANE, Ace does help to give us that small town atmosphere.  In all truthfulness we are a huge area but in a lot of ways we still have that small town atmosphere.

GEORGE, After driving for so many years to a hardware store I LOVE IT!!!

CARL and CEIL, I see the same employees here also.  It has only been one year so we will see if that continues.

WILLIAM, I guess that answers that question.  I do love this hardware store (lol).  I never thought I would be in love with a hardware store but it is VERY COOL!!

LYNDA, It is the opposite of those big stores.  It is so refreshing having someone ask you if they can help you!!

JOHN, Our Ace is new so who knows maybe one will be in your future someday.  We had a huge need though. The owner lives close to me and the idea came to him when he had to make his trek to Lowes.

RUSSELL, I have a friend who lives in the complex across from the San Diego Yacht Club.  She is excited about her new Ace hardware.  I'm just curious if Hillcrest is the same one.  The name seems vaguley familiar to me.

IRENE, I didn't know you lived in The Woodlands 20 years ago.  You would not recognize the place (except for the trees).  This Ace is at the corner of Kuykendahl and Woodlands Parkway.  Those two roads didn't even go through 20 years ago.  This store is only 1 year old.

Marchel,

All companies should have an appreciation day for their customers.  It creates some serious good will.

Marchel,

I came back to read the followup post, and I wasn't disappointed!  Isn't it nice to have an Ace Hardware five minutes down the road?!

I never heard of being able to buy exotic soups at ACE HARDWARE!!!  This superior customer service you've blogged about should bring folks from miles around!  So you used to yawn eh?  That was so funny when i read it!  I so enjoy reading about EVERTHING you share Marchel!

I love Ace Hardware in Cary NC; however, recently new owners have taken over and it's become a mini "wally world" so to speak.  I don't know what's going on but the old timers working there are gone! Several of the hard to find items are no longer carried in the store, and there's much too much patio furniture and "fluff" for a hardware store.

I would always go to Ace instead of the "big box" stores with my list, receive excellent service, they knew my name - and not travel as far.  But now - I think the new owners are looking for resale?  I don't get it!

It's so nice to see that NOT all ACE Hardwares are heading the way of the big box stores!

And Woodlands TX Ace Hardware looks like one of the best!

ANN, It does create good will and in this case was a lot of fun.  I thought that monkey was just so darn cute.

MIKE, We lived here for 13 years without easy access to a hardware store so YES we are enjoying the heck out of this store.  I remember when I saw the sign and came home to tell my husband.  Who would think you would get excited about a hardware store but when you don't have easy access it is something to get excited about.

DIANE, You should see how excited I get about going to an automotive store.  Somehow I don't think they could put anything in that store that wouldn't still make me yawn.

NELLIE, I'm sorry to hear about the changes in your Ace.  They are all independently owned so I guess the new owners have something else in mind.  Hopefully they won't lose their customers in the process.

Marchel,

It is good to see local businesses involved in the community.  I have not been to that ACE, but I now have it on my list of places to visit the next time I am out in the Woodlands.  Our ACE Hardware, Alspaugh's, here in Kingwood is very similar in that they are very active in the community.  Great post and information about the community you serve.  Have a great week in the business.

Hi Jeremy, Thanks for visiting my site.  I don't make it to Kingwood often but will have to remember that there is an Ace over there also.  One opened just north of Gleannloch Farms in Spring but did not make it.  I'm happy to say that this one is doing very good as we love the store.

Marchel, What a tribute to Ace of the Woodlands. I spent 12 years in West U area and visited the Woodlands a couple of times. A great growing and spreading place that is.
