Hi. I just caught a few minutes of the show "House Hunters".Hummmm....I feel it is a great example of the way we show homes, (to a degree), but I just quickly heard a major faux pas!!!

Like a major mistake....know what I mean? MistakesII.jpg Regrets image by Low-Ki

This is a mistake that is "DRUMMED INTO OUR BEING AND ETHICS"....BUT, SHE SAID IT............YEP,

SHE SAID IT....

Now, if you are a Non-Realtor, this may mean nothing to you but if you are licensed....WATCH OUT!

It is a simple term AND THE TERM IS......

IT'S BRAND NEW!"       (choke, choke, hyperventilate, shake and seizure....)

Does anyone here freak out the way I do? Do you see "LAW SUIT" written all over this? I do.

I will let you tell us all why?

Surely, some Realtors  out there know. GET MAD. IF WE WERE TO SAY THAT WE COULD BE INSTANTLY SUED.

 DO YOU KNOW WHY?

 TELL US.

Now, the show, "Property Virgins?"

Seems like they are "DUAL REPRESENTATIVES"...and what do you think ABOUT THAT?

MORE LATER.

Later in the rain~Deb

Those show are annoyng sometimes. And when the real estate agent shows the house like "this is the kitchen", "this is the living room...", dah!

Those shows scare me, and see a lot of mistakes.  Just tonight, even, on "My First House", one of the buyer's was looking at a short sale property.  When "short sale" was mentioned, a bubble popped up on the screen that said "A Short Sale is the first step towards Foreclosure."  WHAT?  Talk about misinformation!  A Short Sale has NOTHING to do with a foreclosure, even though they often happen around the same circumstances.  It's no wonder the public is so confused and concerned!

Deb, Just think our buyers and sellers are watching these shows too.  They love them!  Good thing we know better.

Those shows and Zillow are annoying to me.  I cringe when I am speaking to a buyer or seller and they keep referring to Zillow.

On my first listing that I ever put in to MLS I put that the roof was new.  I was smart enough to let a more experience agent look at it and was quickly informed that the minute the roof was put on it was no longer new.  Now I put recent roof.  New is not a term that we use in real estate.

Gabriela, what? You didn't know that was the kitchen? Just thought I would tell you! Ha....lol

Eric, they scare me too. I am afraid that the public will believe this is the way "Agents" really are. I would love to think they would consider us much more responsible and helpful than this. A short sale? Wow, you are opening a Pandora's box. lol.

Thanks, Deb

Bingo Marchel! New? No such thing in Real Estate. I can't believe they let her say that on TV! Thank you my friend. I can't wait for you to meet Dallas. Deb

Barbara, my clients tell me they love them all the time. I simply reassure them that we will be a bit more serious about it all! lol. Deb

Kari, I have a Zillow "quote" on one of my recent web sites. It tells me I should sell my home for a $50.000.00 loss...lol. Whatever. :-) Deb

I'm often surprised at what agents do on HGTV.  One would think that being filmed would make you more cautious.  However, the opposite seems to occur.

Deb - I have seen plenty of mistakes on those shows, too.  Pam is amazed at my ability to predict what will happen in each scenario, too, for what it's worth.  I had an opportunity to be on "House Hunters" a few years ago, but my clients didn't make the cut.

Deb, And there are other shows that are really misleading and add to negative impressions of our industry. I won't mention any names of those shows because , well, you know why. I've watched a few of these shows and I pick up good ideas all the time. Now when I open the door and we all step in, I can't wait to tell them they are in the Foyer or Entry Hall, lol. "Shall we buy this one or would you like to see more"? hehehe

Gary, they will get us into BIG trouble won't they? Geesh.

Carolyn, oh my dear, I do wish you would say them. I know what I'm getting into!

Jason, you can predict because you are a "leader" in Real Estate sales my friend. You lead, and you can predict. Pam, I am sure, is amazed by you as well as she should be! You are awesome my friend!

William, you don't have to mention them for us to know what you are talking about! What a mess! They teach us the ethics and law and then show crap like that! Whatever....

Hello Deb, I don't have the time to watch this show but I did have the chance to meet some of the main people of the show in Las Vegas Nevada, they bought some jewelry from our shop.

I think there is so much garbage on Television that I haven't watched it in 15 years, you could say I am a little different!

I could say something about the shows, but won't... instead I'll just tell you I'm laughing at the dog photo. Fido is gonna be in a world of hurt in a minute. haha

I think the ethics boards should just watch these shows and I promise they will have enough work to last them the rest of their lives! I know the show has a lot of edited stuff, but when you see a full 5 minute segment and the violation is at the beginning, there is really no way of denying or getting yourself out of it. I've heard people use really unethical phrases, but quickly fix them by adding that you can't do that or this is agents my advice. But, when they say it as advice, watch out ethics board! These tapes are forever!

We watch these shows too - one thing I don't get is that agent on Property Virgins - she's got to be Canadian - several shows she was working with buyers in the US - my guess is that shes not the "official' agent but just the figure they show us on camera?  theres no way she could be selling homes in Florida - Texas - New York etc!

Deb, I watch those sometimes and am astounded. I often wonder if other states have different regulations than Texas.
