The City of Roses . . . Wordless Wednesday

Remember this quote by Shakespeare?

"What's in a name?

That which we call rose

By any other name

Would smell as sweet"

~ Since 1888 The City of Portland (located in Oregon) has been known as:  The City of Roses ~

Although it's supposedly "Wordless" Wednesday, I couldn't help think about this beautiful quote by the Bard.  Since I live in the City of Roses, I like my roses and this bud was taken in my backyard a few weeks ago.  It's now bloomed, and has lived a very good life in a vase in my family room.  What a beautiful flower too!  And the smell . . . whatever you want to call it, it would have smelled as sweet!

Carla...

As soon as I saw it I had to stop for a moment and smell it. If we don't take time to do that, what's the point? :)

I'm going to leave you with a song that goes well with this post. Hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoy leaving with you :)

TLW...ROAR!

What a great shot of that rose bud. You're very fortunate to have them in your own back yard to enjoy.

TLW -- WOW!!  What a lovely song, thank you so much for sharing this with me and everyone reading this blog!  I can't even begin to express how thoughtful this is.  Just as with the names being so insignificant -- which is really what Shakespeare was going for when he penned these lines -- my "thanks" are only words.  We certainly do need to stop . . . and smell the roses.  Each, and every one of us.

Romeo and Juliet (II, ii, 1-2)

"Romeo Montague and Juliet Capulet meet and fall in love in Shakespeare's lyrical tale of "star-cross'd" lovers. They are doomed from the start as members of two warring families. Here Juliet tells Romeo that a name is an artificial and meaningless convention, and that she loves the person who is called "Montague", not the Montague name and not the Montague family. Romeo, out of his passion for Juliet, rejects his family name and vows, as Juliet asks, to "deny (his) father" and instead be "new baptized" as Juliet's lover. This one short line encapsulates the central struggle and tragedy of the play."

TLW . . . "Desert Rose," I just love your taste in music!

Hi Art -- not sure about that.  I'm going to write another blog about Portland "nicknames" so maybe I'll learn "how" and put that in the blog.  Thanks for your comments!

Oh this reminds me of the gorgeous roses  I used to have and miss.  We re-landscaped several years ago and the roses had to go - they were so pretty (many years) but took quite the beating in our hot desert - therefore desert rose.  Loving the music ladies!

What an absolutely gorgeous photo, Carla! I'm a newbie, so I haven't had the pleasure of viewing your gallery of roses yet, but I'm going to after seeing this one. :)

Hi Anna B -- thank you.  You know I thought of you today.  Grandma says HI!  I was looking at the Morning Glory vine, and saw some pods had turned to seed.  I collected them for next year, and thought of your Grandmother's love for them, which you shared.

Hi Leilani -- Thanks for the nice compliments seeing more!! -- kinda like asking for "seconds" from the cook.  Always a nice compliment!

Hey Renee . . . funny how I NEVER plan the photos to turn out any particular way.  It just . . . happens ;-)  (Desert Rose is appropriate for you too!)

Thanks Robin -- it is the right color!  Never thought of that, but Roses should be the flower -- they bloom, and come back again.  Survivors.

Hey Leilani -- that's how my son would trick me to cook meals for him.  Always with the compliments!!

;-)  WOW MOM this is great!!

Howdy Debra -- I wish I had something to do with the color -- nope!  That's all natural (which I could say the same for my red hair! -- HA!!)

Gorgeous shot, Carla!  I absolutely love growing roses--at first, I would never trim one off to take inside because I didn't want to disturb the bush but, now, I snip one every chance I get...just seems to brighten my day indoors!

Have a great weekend...
