This morning I was listening to Elie Wiesel author and Pulitzers Prize winner for the book 'Night". If you have never read the book read it now. It is a life changing story and first hand account of faith, hopelessness, hope found and survival of the most inhuman events of our worlds history! I read the book last November and it rocked me like nothing ever had before, more than any movie could about the Holocaust. Elie Wiesel's own story puts you there sharing the hannis crimes against a people. 'Never Again' is the slogan for the Jews and those of us that stand with them and so is why I am involved in a Christian organization who's sole purpose is to honor and stand with our Jewish brothers and sisters, we are not here to convert but to support Israel's defense and a right to exist.
Regardless of your politics, Israel and the Jewish people, have a right to exist and thrive and in doing so as the only Democratic Nation in the Middle East, there are a number of Arab and Muslim people that support Israel's Democracy. As many of you know Israel has lived under threat for many years and that threat continues to grow. As Christians we have a Biblical mandate to stand with Israel and support her existence. I spent many years living in Muslim countries and love the culture and people, they were some of my best years. I have many Muslim friends and make no apologies for my beliefs or political views on Israel. The interesting thing is fear comes from the unknown and once you befriend a Muslim they are often surprised at the kindness of others when they come to our country or we are there, the same is true with us. Many of us are fearful of a person of Middle East desent and yet if you reach out to them they can be the most generous of people. Many are persecuted in their own country as well and women have few rights, that has less to do with Islam as it has to do with the fundamentalist that terroris and control much of that part of the world.
Israel and the Jewish people are responsible for much of our technology today, our medical discoveries, movie moguls, agricultural advances, music and philosophers through out history and present day. My support and involvement has little to do with what the Government in Israel or the United States current policy is but is more about my Christian beliefs and to encourage our Government to support Israel's defense but we shouldn't dictate to them how to defend their people or run their Government. Israel does hold elections and are a free society unlike most of that region. At our summit in Washington D.C. we did have Muslims attend and speak out on behalf of democracy, Israel is their hope as well.
It is hard to judge that which we don't know much about and I can tell you from one that has spent 7 years there there is much that isn't reported. We must read and educate ourselves ad what happens there does directly affect our country and our world!!
" Trust the threats of an enemy more than you trust the promises of a friend." Elie Wiesel
