People are friendly at Ponderosa Realty. One of my broker’s slogans is “The coffee is always on”. We welcome you into our office; we love to talk about, and show people our beautiful Red Feather Lakes area.
We don’t welcome the bears though, and keep our dumpster chained and locked. While we are a friendly group, it’s just necessary to keep some “customers” away!
A few weeks ago, a bear didn’t care about the chain, or the steel lid, or the ½ steel rod – she just reached in and bent it back enough to get a paw in!
The bears don’t know that there are laws against littering – all they know is that they need about 20,000 calories a day to get through hibernation. I wish I could get a photo of the dumpster diving bear – but so far I can only tell that she’s around from the evidence left behind at another dumpster.
The wildlife in the Red Feather Lakes area is abundant and it’s one of the things that make it a wonderful place to live.
Being “unwelcoming” saves the bears and protects them from getting into trouble with the law.
In 2006 a bear got “drunk” on fermented apples, near Lyons, Colorado. Since I have no pictures of the bear in Red Feather, I thought you might enjoy seeing this one.
