I tried to search for one of my posts this morning,  it took me 10 minutes to find it!  First, I checked my  bookmarked posts, (too long and too many) then I had to go through my entire Blog and all my posts to finally find it.  I would have used the Active Rain Search feature, but I couldn't remember my own "title". Has this ever happened to you?

This made me put on my thinking cap, to try and figure out how I could prevent this, and find them easier in the future.  10 minutes is ridiculous.  Not too often, but on occasion, I want to email various posts I have written to other members or even non-members of Active Rain.  It's taking me too much time to locate them.

So this is what I came up with. A post that works just for me!!  ( just kidding...you can use it too! ) :-))

This post will allow me to find my entire BLOG in a single post, and all on one page too.  I'm not sure if this has been done by other members, or if there is a better way, but I'll take my chances, and hope this is ok. 

 

Three lessons I learned here today are:

  1. I can use Active Rain to benefit me as much as other readers, friends and members
  2. Don't name your posts with "Titles" you can't remember  (I think it's an age thing)  LOL
  3. Never be afraid to try something new...you can't succeed until you fail first
    (for those of you who may not approve of this post)

It's Easy!  My wife makes the best one's in the whole world, and I always eat "The Whole Enchilada"!

or maybe...How did I get all my posts, the dates, number of comments, views, and clicks on a single post?
Just click on your statistics link on your profile page, and you can "copy and paste" yours into a new post!

Brad....  I am a little lost with this one. I only say this because all you need to do is go to the search button. Search for blogs. You can put your name in with something related to that blog that you are looking for. Or just search with key words.

In any case, I went back to read this. Not sure if it's just because it is late. But you said this : This one here will allow me to find my entire BLOG in a single post, and all on one page too

Can you try to explain what you came up with again, to make this easier?  What am I missing?  thanks

man I hate to say this but Jeff is right - search - if you knew what it was about you could have searched a key phrase.... it is a good way to know who has mentioned you in a post too.. search your word or words then change from profile to blog and presto.... but hey this is a great list.

Hey Jeff - this is the type of comment I was looking for.  I had forgotten the name of the post title and I wanted to email it to a friend.  Maybe it was just my own ignorance, but I went through my blog, page by page, then decided it was taking too long.  I couldn't remember the title so I never did the search!  When I went to my statistics link, I found all of them on one page and thought that was an awesome way to find them.  (that's where I found it)

So really, I could just use the statistics link instead of this post, right?  The other thought here was, would you be more inclined to review more of my posts if they were available to YOU this way?  Or, would you weed through my pages to find something I may have posted 2 months ago? I have found that my older posts get less hits as time goes on.  Maybe this would be an alternative to getting more reads and comments on older posts? Maybe not, this is where my ignorance may really kick in, or would this make me dumb like a fox?  :-)

It is late, so maybe I am the one missing something here, not you. Never-the-less, I love your comments and thank you for keeping me accountable and on track. This post is a test of the emergency blogging system, this is only a test!!   LOL  :-)

I think folks should have an option to go to a statistics-like page just listing all post titles. New readers are unlikely to go through each individual post....

Thesa - you and Jeff are right, I don't disagree, but would you have made the comment "but hey this is a great list." in any other case?  Would you have been able to see this list in any other format or section of AR other than statistics?  In essence, this post has actually become my "One Page" blog.  Hmmm......
I know I'm being a pioneer here, but sometimes we have to take some arrows to make a point. (big smile) 

I think the comment by Kaushik is more what I was trying to say....

Kaushik - EXACTLY!! :-)  You are the only one who can access your statistics link, unless you did what I did here.  Problem is, this post will eventually get burried like the rest of them, I agree that readers will not sift through post by post or page by page to review your entire blog.  I like the idea of having just a "Title Page" (like this post) that allows readers to quickly scan through your blog to find the topics that peak their points of interest. It helps me find stuff in my own blog too.  I'm Glad to see this post creating some great discussions, ideas, and comments. As it stands, this is no longer just a post in my blog, it is my blog!!  :-)

Brad, Ohh I almost forget,    another easy way to do it, it is the tags,    that's the reason that we have tags,  if you look to your right side, and you click there,  you will get what you wrote on your tags, so just remember what tag you wrote in your blog :)  that's a very fast and easy way to do it, as Countrywide program :)

Hey Ray - I do use my tags quite often, but when it gets late at night, and it does on the rain, my rain brain does not work as quickly and efficiently. My tag list is getting longer and harder to maintain and take advantage of.  It would be nice if there were away to categorize or consolidate it somehow.  Anyhow, thanks for the tip, I know you're always looking out for me and I appreciate it!!  Thanks my friend!!  :-)

Great eye Angie - That is just a "joke"!  I just put that in there to see how many actually would catch it.  That is the only one that is not accurate.  I can tell that you pay great attention to detail and must be very thourough with your clients and your business!  These are wonderful traits, and you should be commended!!  :-)  Thanks for noticing...

Brad, I came to this post for some help in figuring out what is going on with my posts.  I spend a great deal of time putting them together and blogging and yet I see small number of comments, and way more views and clicks.  So if your numbers are low, what do you conclude.... is the posting just not that interesting that people will either view to see where it is going or read the whole post and just not comment or is it something that I am missing.... and no I am not whining. I am trying to figure out what AR is as far as a benefit and if I am truly benefiting anyone except myself!!!

Maybe I am the only one that has this question and maybe I am asking the wrong person, but if you have any ideas I'd appreciate them.  Because time is money and so on....

Rosemary - often times, people will read the post, and if it does not engage them for a comment, then they won't.  Don't take it personal. Look at the posts that generate you the most comments, then see what the common thread is that gets them to comment. It takes time, so be patient, and write from your heart, and not for comments.  Some people actually get commentors block, just like writers block!  Hope this helps!  :-)

I have many posts that have 1000's of views, hundreds of clicks, and very few comments, it doesn't stop me from posting what I like to post and share with those that do like to engage in my topics of choice.

Yolanda - this was a post written back on 6/21/07, i have used it as a reference on occassion but almost forgot all about it.  Thanks for commenting and bringing it back to life.  I will have to update it tonight. :-)  It does make it easy to access all my posts from one convenient page instead of hunting through posts or searching by the keywords.

Brad!  Aren't you glad it's revived?  More comments for you--you comment hungry you.  LOL  Just a side note to your reply to Rosemary, sometimes I see a blog with over 1000 views and maybe 20 or so comments.  It's not personal I'm sure, but I think it depends on how established the writer is (generally).  All we can do is to keep blogging and somewhere down the line a connection will be made--that is to be hoped.  Obviously that scenario doesn't apply to you.  : )

Yolanda - yes I am, but the comments are keeping me busy trying to keep up! LOL!  I too have many posts with thousands of view, but only a few comments.  You're right, eventually, if you write, they will come.  I post a week gets you 52 posts a year, but 2 a week gets you 104.  See where I'm going with this? It's really up to the blogger how much and how fast...Kinda like Piano Lessons!! hahaha!

Brad, thanks for the comment and Yolanda I think you are right on time too.  I wondered about it and yes, it made me stop and think and question myself and why I write.  I do not do it for the comments but I will admit the comments are motivators to me to continue on because I have given something to someone that maybe able to use it and my time was not wasted.  I have never stopped posting just because I did not get comments -- I am not a quiter so that is out of the question.

I have received so much valuable information here that I can't even express it.  I just hope that what I write about does help someone and believe me -- my writings are all from the heart.  That is what I am composed of. 

I find your post interesting and I always come back to check out what you are written since the last time.  I would love it if others felt that way about what I write.  That is really more of what I was trying to say in the other comment.

I love the stats page for finding things if I need to.  I wish we had good categories in place instead of tag clouds because I think it would be a better way to search.

Josette, that's a great idea.  I save all mine in word and have also sorted them by category at the bottom of my profile page.  I work them from there as well.  Thanks for taking the time to comment.
