Life has been working lately!  I am working hard, and things are working with me, which is a marked change from earlier in the year.  I have a home inspection this afternoon and I am feeling confident about it.  My family room window was just replaced this morning... Jack hit a golf ball with the lawn mower a while back.  It's a double pane window and only one side got broken, so there was no urgency except to get it done before the cold weather hit. One more thing checked off the "to do" list.

My favorite tree on the property, a Bradford Pear lost a huge chunk of itself the other day during a rain storm and we hired a tree guy that a friend of my husband knows to try to save it.  When they were finished making a lot of noise yesterday, they left without knocking.  When I went outside, this is what I saw!

tree complients of the 3 stooges

Here it is from the other side.  Does one side look significantly taller than the rest of the tree?

Larry Moe and Curly left their glasses home!

I am not a very picky person, but this tree looks like Larry, Moe and Curly had a hand in the pruning!  I was trying to save the tree, not set it up for public ridicule!  When Max came home from school the first thing he said was "Mom!  We're not going to keep that tree out there, are we??"  I called Jack and asked him to kindly call the tree guy.  He suggested he call the tree guy and have the tree guy call me back.  There is definitely a disconnect somewhere between the way men and women think.  If I wanted to talk to the tree guy again, wouldn't I just call him myself?? I had already called him once after he left because I couldn't believe they were really finished, what with all the debris left in the yard.  The other reason I called was because when I went out the back door, the other tree I hired him to prune still had a huge tree limb hanging from it.  Neatly sawed off, but hanging off the tree!  I tried to pull it down, but it was firmly stuck!  I didn't go out front yet!  I suppose I should have walked out front before that first phone call, but I didn't.  After I saw the mess they made out of my poor Pear, I wanted Jack to step in.  And by stepping in, I surely didn't mean for him to call the tree guy and ask the tree guy to call me.  Is anyone following this logic??

By now, I'm sure my friend Rob is wondering where the thankful part is!!!  Every now and again on a Thursday, I come to it slowly!  Here it is!

I am thankful to be alive and kicking and actually living in a country where I can have the beauty of nature around me and the freedom to enjoy it.  I am thankful to have a little extra money to actually hire the 3 stooges to trim my trees.  I am thankful for the health and well being of my children and my family.  I am thankful for this little guy, that keeps me smiling, even though he had me up at 3:30 AM this morning, barking at imaginary things in the night.

My JJ

Life is Grand.  Make the most of it!

Carpe Diem!

Susan, I love your heart! Now if you want something done right don't send a man in send a woman to get the job done right. It might be hard to find a woman arborist!!??

Bradford Pear is a beautiful flowering decorative pear tree... and I'm sure within a short time (a couple of years) the tree will start reaching skyward again.

I hope everything works out with the tree guys. Sometimes we just have to be thankful for what we have, even when things aren't perfect.

Shelton, some days, you really need to dig deep, but I promise, it changes your mood, and it turn, changes the course of the day.

Caren, it would be harder to find a more incompetent one than I had!  You gotta laugh!

Alan, I am hoping.  It's my favorite tree.  I first saw these trees in South Philadelphia.  It seems they planted a lot of them.  I guess you need to keep them pruned so that the weight of the tree doesn't make them split down the middle.

Darrell, you said it!  Even when things aren't perfect!  They rarely are!  Even my beloved dog, when visiting a friend this week, pooped in her dining room!  I think he's perfect, but my friend doesn't!  lol!

Now I'm litterally in mourning over your beautiful pear tree.  That is the same tree that was SO beautiful last spring isn't it?  OMG- give ME the tree guys number and I'll explain it to him like he's a 6 year old so he can understand that he MUST come back and fix it.

Hannah, you can say that again, considering I was stupidly standing right under it and tugging down!!!  Common sense has never been one of my top ten attriubutes!

Tammy, I could cry when I look at that tree.  Here it is on the left of the weeping cherry.

Sheldon, did I need that laugh this afternoon!  I have to tell you something I just realized.  The company name, and I shouldn't mention the company, but really, I doubt if the 3 stooges are online, is called Shady Tree , Inc.  I had at first thought the name denoted, you know, a shade tree.  Now I realize they were being up front... it's a shady business!  Honestly, it isn't me, is it??  Love you, my favorite British Agent!!

Susan - That is a funny story - of course it is not funny to you. And I hope you didn't pay them yet. Every Thursday when I get up - I think of the things to be thankful for because of your Thankful Thursdays and I know you will have a great story.  Even though I cut my finger instead of the apples, and my father was in a wreck, there is still many things in our lives to be thankful for.

Susan, Considering what happened to a tree in my front yard, yours doesn't look bad at ALL :)  It's been a wonderful week so far and there are always things to be grateful for.

I completely agree Susan that men and women think through problems completely differently. I do agree though that the tree ought to look fairly symmetrical.

Sheldon, honestly, I dont' think it's a marketing snafu at all.  I think they were just being honest!

Jeese, see, you just can't make this stuff up!

Sharon, I'm sorry to hear about your Dad.  I hope he is okay, and I hope your cut on the finger isn't too serious.  Thank you for always reading my thankful Thursday post.  I look forward to your comments each week!  xxoo

Carole, you must post a picture of the tree in your front yard if it looks worse than my poor bedraggled and now totally embarrassed tree!

Gary, I know that if I called you and asked you to talk to the tree guy, you would have said, "sure, what do you want me to say!"  I used to have a neighbor, loved him so much, he was from France.  Whenever I had a contractor here giving me a hard time, I would just call Henri.  He would come on over, pretend he didn't speak much English, and basically get them to do whatever it is I wanted that they were giving me a hard time about!  Gosh, how I miss him!  He helped me out of so many jams.  I'd like to add him to the list of things I'm thankful for.  Henri Noebes.  He moved south but he was such a gem!

Susan - have the stooges just cut away the whole bradford pear and start over. They need a lot of work and still end up with weak branching structure. So maybe there is something in there to be thankful for. (Yeah, they do look good in bloom, but, not worth the problems). Terrific shot of JJ. Knew that you would get a pitch in for him. Hang in there.

I hate it when husbands don't get it, but we still find ourselves thankful for what we have (even barking dogs at 3 AM, BTW whatever got JJ going at 3 got mine going at 4 Wednesday night).  Have a great weekend.

Mike, you are right, but I have a sentimental interest in this tree.

Paddy, I am thankful for JJ, even when he barks.  xxoo

An Update:  The Shady Tree, Inc., company (I honestly still can't believe that is their name) called me today to tell me he has not forgotten about me.  He will be back on Sunday or Monday to remove the one tall branch in my Pear and remove the stuck big branch in my plumb and clean up the debris.  I told him he would laugh when he saw what his workers did to my tree.  He said he was the one who pruned the tree.  Yikes!  He said he asked them to lope off that one tree limb.  I suggested they forgot.  He suggested maybe they just didn't want to do it.  I guess you just can't get good help these days!  xxoo
