Real Estate Brokerage sc  Do You Take No for An Answer

Whether you are a recruiter for a real estate brokerage or a sale agent, this remains true.

For you brokers/mangers/recruiters, if you take No for an answer when you contact an experienced agent about joining your real estate company, you probably are not going to be successful. Now, I know that I'm sticking my neck out here and many of you probably won't agree with me.

There is an experienced real estate sales agent who you would really like to join your real estate brokerage.  You call them and identify yourself, ask for an appointment to discuss the advantages of your office -- their immediate answer is "NO, I love my office and am not going to leave"--- do you say "I understand and  have a nice day" and hang up?
If you do, you are never going to get that agent.

After they tell me "NO", I tell them that I understand but that my real estate brokerage has so many new and great things for the sales agent --- I surely would like to tell them about our company and office -- just so they will have the knowledge -- I tell them without giving them anytime to stop me "I know your time is very valuable, but if you will just take 30 minutes to 1 hour of your time to listen to me, I would really appreciate it and would love for you to just understand who we are."

Then, I pause just long enough for them to tell me that they just don't want to "waste my time".  Then I just start telling them just a few advantages of our real estate brokerage ---before the conversation is over, if I don't have the appointment, I at least have been given permission to stay in touch with them .

If you are a sales agent, the same approach works with potential sellers and buyers.  If you accept their first "NO", you are not going to make it.

Great topic.  If your applying for a Home Mortgage make sure you ask all the questions you have regarding refinancing or purchasing your first home.  Talk to your loan officer today and get all your questions or concerns answered.  This will not cost you a single penny.

Hey Liz - you are good girlfriend! I had a Dale Carnegie Instructor tell me way back in college (while selling water beds at a - get this - high end store in Edina MN -  he says - No means nothing unless you've asked them 13 times.  I never forgot this guy or what he taught.  That was a fun place to work - the stuff I did to sell furniture -  OMG - I haven't thought about that in a long time!!  I don't even know if my husband knows I worked there!!!

I can't count the number of listings I've gotten over the years because I wouldn't take no for an answer. I knew their was a yes in there or they wouldn't have called in the first place, I just had to find out what the objection was.

I have a real estate client who is a VERY successful high end sales person in a tech field. As I have been in sales for a number of years not just in real estate we hit it off. We were driving to see a home and she got a call. When she hung she said to me, " I don't understand the people who work on my team. They go on an appointment and they are all upset because they get a NO. No , and hell no, are a buying signals as far as I am concerned. What's wrong with these people. On the other hand F_______ no, could be a problem. Well I controlled my laughter well enough not to have a wreck. Your post reminded me of that experience. You are very right. I have subscribed to your blog so I will see them in the future.

Anna --- am sure that you have transferred this to your sales associates --- ask 13 times --- wow, I had heard to ask 5, but not 13.

Liz,

I never minded the No's in sales because they always led me to a "yes".
