"A wise and frugal government, which shall leave men free to regulate their own pursuits of industry and improvement, and shall not take from the mouth of labor the bread it has earned ....this is the sum of good government."

I believe Jefferson was a very wise man who saw things from many points of view.

How would you interpret this statement?

I think it has to do with the  taxation of those who work and earn.

Or how about this one....

"I predict future happiness for Americans if they can prevent the government fom wasting the labors of people under the pretense of takeing care of them."

Right on... just give me my money and I will take care of myself. I am tired of be taxed to take care of low life politicians of either parties, idiots on welfare that can't control their animalistic instincts and all the government employees that it takes to run this American eating machine. The country should be run by the states and the Federal Government should over see them without all their family members eating at the government trough. Run them SOBs out of Washington and back to the rocks tey crawled out from under.

Trey - You even moved Noqui to comment, but again he just doesn't understand Jeffersonian wisdom.

Howdy there Trey

At times I feel as if they are doing their best to take us back to 1860's, when the Federal Government, lied as to why they were really invading the South.

It just doesn't make sense to redistrubute wealth.

For its day, it was good stuff. Might not be so relevant in the age of cars, trains, planes, central banks (which they didn't have then), Wall Street, stocks & bonds, etc. That's why it's important to have a Supreme Court that understands the flexibility of the United States Constitution and can apply those flexible words to things that weren't even imagined 240 years ago.

Jefferson also was not a fan of invading foreign countries. Imagine what the trillion dollars that has been spent on the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq could have paid for right here at home.

Have you seen my "Learning something new...." series? One of them is on Thomas Jefferson.
