Foto Friday: Full Moon over Hernando Beach, Florida - Before the Crash!

By
Real Estate Agent with Tropic Shores Realty - Ich spreche Deutsch!

This morning, NASA had a space probe crash into the moon.  The probe was launched in June and the purpose for this exercise is to determine whether there is water on the moon by examining the resulting dust cloud from the crash.

These photos of the "undamaged" full moon were taken at the beginning of October 2009 in Hernando Beach, Florida.

Enjoy!

Silvia - Interesting concept ... how do you tell if there is water by looking at the dust ... I think of dust clouds being the result of a lack of water not the presence of water

Silvia, Nice pictures of the moon - I don't really like the idea of NASA crashing into it - but then again I'm not a scientist.

Michael, Chris, Lou, Yvette and Dennis, and Marney, we'll probably have to wait a while before we hear anything about the results.

Kathy, I imagine it's a complicated process!

Jim and Maria, and Konnie, glad you enjoy them.

Mary, it's sound violent doesn't it?  I'm just glad the crash wasn't big enough to bump the moon out of it's orbit!

Tony and Darcy! Yep, you got it!

Sandy, especially living on the Space Coast like you do, you are much closer to the source!

Hi Silvia:

Great photos!

I'm like a few others here, don't really get why we needed to crash into the moon, no less spend all that money in doing so...

Hi Jim, thank you for the moon in the clouds!  Did you find these clouds in the southern Californian skies?

Here is one for you!  This picture was taken five days after the NASA probe crashed into the moon and as you can clearly see, the moon is considerably smaller and practically only half of what it used to be! :-)

Those are beautiful shots of the moon.  I wonder if it will all look the same to us, after it's been 'bombed'.   Why can't we just leave the moon alone? If there was water on the moon, what would they do?  Send some people over to live there?

I came back to see if you had some pictures of the damaged moon, and you sure did. That was some damage!

Sylvie, I think people have been fascinated by the moon and the stars for ages, we just now have the technology to mess with it!

Jim, thanks for stopping in again. I think nature has a way to heal so keep looking to the sky at night and check on the old moon every once in while... :-)
