Syracuse at its Best: BalloonFestSo, this one is late in being written, but I just couldn't let it go by the wayside altogether.  We had so much fun when we attended the Jamesville BalloonFest!  It is sponsored by a variety of local organizations, including the Onondaga County Parks and 93Q.  Admission is a modest $5 each, and there is a ton to do in the park for that amount!

We were there in the middle of the day, so we didn't get to see any hot air balloons being launched, but we did learn a lot about them by reading the history on the signs and talking to some of the pilots that were at the festival.  The balloons go up very early in the morning and then again later in the afternoon, weather Syracuse at its Best: BalloonFestpermitting.

The weather was gorgeous when were there and hopes were very high for an evening launch.  Rides can be arranged for $150 if you have the guts to go up there!  A close friend of mine, who happens to be a photographer, did this a few years ago and she says it was really very interesting!

There are a variety of music acts to be heard at the park, along with lots of great food and some rides and games for the younger set.

The BalloonFest has all the trappings of a complete carnival, with the added excitement of the balloons to boot.  The beach is also open during the festival, so it is really quite possible to go and spend a day at the park doing all sorts of different things.

You've missed it for this year, but keep your eye on the sky for the balloons when they roll (or fly!) back into town for next year's festival!

Not me!  No guts for something like that! I used to be able to go on all kinds of rides ...now I can't even go up in a ferris wheel without getting nauseated!

That looks like it was fun to watch and something for the grandkids...one day...

Sally- Yeah, me either.  I am happy to watch.  Plus, the idea of getting into that tiny basket with two strangers kind of skeeves me out too.

Christina,

That is soooo much fun! We took a balloon ride when we visited the Grand Canyon and it is a wonderful experience. You should try it!

Christina--I love to watch hot air balloons! We would go to local shows just to take photos. Couldn't get me up in one but I love how beautiful they look in the sky!!

You're so funny. I know what you mean though....will these people help me if something goes wrong?  Over here my daughter went skydiving with her then boyfriend about a month ago. And told me after. Well, that guy won't be talking her into anything anymore...they broke up..whew.

Christina, I have been in a hot air balloon and I have to say they need to emphasis the HOT part. Man, it was so hot up there under the torch that I was ready to jump out. As a matter of fact I was practically hanging half way out the balloon.

They had a festiva down at the bay here in the Houston area and my son got to ride in one.  He thought it was great.  As for me I like my feet planted firmly on the ground.  I'm okay with a big airliner but nothing else.  Great post!!

Jack- Really?  I don't know... I'm more of a watch and take pictures kind of girl.  But maybe some day!

Teri- I agree with you.  I do love to watch them.  I remember growing uo sometimes they would come as far as my parents house and it was really cool to watch them from the back yard.

Sally- LOL There's no way better to test a man than to... skydive?!?

Mana- That never even occured to me.  But it makes perfect sense!  It's funny because you kind of assume it will be nice and breezy and calm... but no!

Aurora- Thank you.  I love taking my own pictures and doing these posts!

Marchel- I am with you.  Keep me on the ground and let me watch, and I'm a happy girl.  It's cool for your son that he got to go up and enjoyed it, though!

Christina in spite of living in the home of "The International Balloon Fiesta" I have only gone up once in a tethered balloon. I did get a chance to ride with a chase crew once as well. Sounds like your balloon fest was fun!
