Buyers in the Carlsbad real estate market who wish to live in a luxury community may find their dream home in the gated Bella Lago association, one of the 16 Aviara communities in southwest Carlsbad. This neighborhood was honored as the San Diego Community of the Year in 1997. Bella Lago is a private and gated enclave (with two entrances) along the Batiquitos Lagoon, consisting of 61 one and two-story homes, built by Brookfield, ranging in size from 3,011 to 4,814 SF on 4 street - Shorebird Lane, Pelican Street, Alcyon Court and Mallard Court.
Many Bella Lago homes have terrific lagoon or ocean views; some homes back up directly to the Batiquitos Lagoon preserve area. Rolling hills of the community, lush landscaping and palm trees, and the views of the lagoon and adjacent hills add to the quiet sense of luxury in this desirable community. Home styles include Tuscan, Spanish and Mediterranean, with beautifully landscaped yards Like the other high-end enclaves of Aviara, such as Aviara Point, homes do not frequently come on the market here, and they come with a price. At the time of this writing, there were two homes for sale in Bella Lago; the smaller, on Shorebird Lane, is priced at $1.499 million with 4 bedrooms, 3.5 bedrooms and 4,135 SF of living and entertaining space; the larger, on Pelican Street and range priced at $1.625 million to $1.7 million, with 5 bedrooms, 4.5 baths and around 4400 SF (these homes are typical of properties in Bella Lago...sellers seem to like living here since only a handful of homes have changed hands in the last 2 years). Residents in this attractive pricey neighborhood pay HOA and Mello Roos fees. Residents in the Bella Lago community are a short distance from several access points to the Batiquitos Lagoon Preserve and its several miles of walking trails. Since Aviara is a residential community there are no retail stores or restaurants other than those at the Four Seasons in the heart of the community (not a bad place to dine or shop - dinner at Vivace is a memorable occasion); the resort also offers a spectacular spa and health club, in addition to its golf course. There is an additional restaurant, The Argyle, at the golf course club house just a short distance from Bella Lago, offering upscale indoor or outdoor dining with views of the golf course. A short drive will bring you to the main shopping area of South Carlsbad adjacent to La Costa with a good mix of retail establishments, restaurants, and sophisticated outdoor shopping at The Forum (Ann Taylor, Talbots, Sur la Table and much more). The South Carlsbad beach (also known as Ponto) is a short distance away, and of course golfing at the Four Seasons Aviara Resort is readily available - and if you are a rank beginner, have no fear, there is the Aviara Golf Academy. The nearby walking trails along the Batiquitos Lagoon provide glimpses of the golf course and terrific opportunities for birdwatching (egrets nesting in the trees), and a pleasant place to exercise your legs with a quick run. |
