...this program: $15.2 million to Detroit residents through the Federal Homeless Prevention and Rapid Re-Housing Program, caused pandemonium and worse, some personal injuries at Cobo Hall. The scenes were published and flashed via video reporting over the airways; the deadline has been extended to 14 Oct. and HUD spokeswoman--Andrea Mead assured Detroit that federal officials were determining what kind of help Detroit needed and how many staff members to send.
It appears that a rumor that CASH was being distributed caused the large crowd according to Sylvia Crawford--spokeswoman for the Detroit Planning and development Department.
The bottom line is: the money will only be able to help about 3,400 families, and can be used for rental assistance, security deposits, utility deposits, utility payments, moving cost assistance, and motel & hotel vouchers. It CANNOT BE USED to pay mortgages.

"Gov. Jennifer Granholm today issued an order to combine the departments of Natural Resources and Environmental Quality to create a Department of natural Resources and Environment starting in Jan. 2010
...be responsible for protecting, conserving and managing the state's water, air and other natural resources.The order would stand unless both the House and Senate disapprove of the changes. The Dept. of Agriculture would stand alone under the directive, but the governor will appoint the director.....groups that support Granholm's move...Sierra Club-Michigan Chapter, Clean Water Action, Michigan Environmental Council and League of conservation Voters.
