A mule deer doe in my back yard this morning in Tucson Estates 2, Tucson, AZ

My folks lived in Clavarack, New York for three decades.  When I'd go visit them, I got used to seeing concrete statues of deer people had placed in their front yards.

I never understood the desire to do that.  I'd much rather have my back yard graced by the presence of living, breathing statues from time to time.

This lady of the desert graced us with her presence this morning at 6:45 a.m.

Joan,

Thanks for being the first to comment.  There's no mistaking Arizona, is there?

Hi Mike, Now that is my idea of a beautiful statue. Captured in a moment in time, they will live to grace another yard as a stature. Beautiful photo and I am guessing that it was a special time for you this morning to have been a part of this.

Mike,

You are quicker, or your deer are more trusting.

I had 12 point and 8 point bucks rubbing their antlers on saplings behind the house a week ago.

Too slow to get a photo...

Beautiful!

No matter how many times I see them I still watch them until they run away.

Mike, I am with you, I do not see the value in placing concrete statues in the yard. I have enough pesky deer in the yard...

Helping you live your American dream...

Mike:  Awesome photo and I've never seen deer and cacti together like this.  It's quite a contrast when you live in my part of the world.  What graceful animals.

You are so lucky!

Here's what I saw this morning out my window. My tomato plants... and snow.

Mike - Another great shot. If they stand still, you would have a hard time spotting them from a distance. We had one eat our tomato plants for the first time this year.

Hello Mike, that is one fine photo -- and subject!  We tend to have too many deer in our neighborhood -- this year they've hit our roses, tomatoes, zucchini, peas, beans, .... John

They are such beautiful animals!  I love the term "lady of the desert" that you used.  Very nice shot!

Mike, The only deer I see in NY anymore at are Fire Island or all the way out East.  They are absolutely magnificent creatures.

We have an entire herd that moves up from the valley behind our home through the back yard to the neighbors home where he feeds about 50lbs of corn every week. I have often fantasized about how his head would look on the wall next to some othe horn collection. OOPS, did I say that?

Very nice shot Mike. Up here in Vail we get plenty of coyote and javelina (and the occasional cow) in our yard, but no dear. I think all the new subdivisions in the last few years have pushed them a little further out into the Rincons. Shame.

Have a great long weekend.

Mike, thanks for your great shot and for me an unexpected pleasure.  Once upon a time I had a houseboat at Black Meadow Landing on Lake Havasu and almost every weekend my temporary backyard in some cove contained raccoons, water birds galore, donkeys more heard than seen, a bobcat once, a million bats as the sun went down and in the morning assorted other critters.  I never saw a deer but the abundance of life in the desert is really amazing.  In a way, the deer in your back yard should give hope to all.  If a deer can survive in the Arizona desert then we will certainly survive this economy.

Mike - I'm a few days late, but once again ... a fabulous photo!  I just love to watch the deer in their natural habitat.  There is something rather regal about them.

Carol,

We sure enjoy the wildlife here in Tucson.

Bill,

I appreciate your comment; we expect that a reversal in the direction of the current debt-driven-congress will lead to an improved economy.  Absent that, I'm not too hopeful.

Doreen,

She came into the yard to drink from one of our bird-baths.

Dorie,

She didn't remain there long--just long enough for me to snap the shutter.

Simon,

If you have open range cows, you have deer.  They're just not showing themselves when you're out and about.

Russell,

Are you a bowhunter?

Chris,

Thanks!

Carole,

I used to see them along the Thruway, munching grass by the side of the road, oblivious to the cars whizzing by.

Sharon,

She's very much a lady, isn't she?

John,

All those good munchies that you plant just for them...  LOL

Matt,

Thanks for stopping by.

Larry,

When they're in the brush, they're invisible when they're still.

Donna S,

An early snow!  Come visit Tucson.

Donna Y,

She is magnificent, isn't she?

Michael,

Pesky is in the eye of the beholder.  :)

Debra,

It is warm; come visit!

Jane,

I am, aren't I?  LOL

Terry,

Me too.

Mike,

I'd like to have seen a picture of that!

William,

Right you are!  The doe moved down to a neighbor's yard and bedded down in the wash behind the house.  We really enjoy seeing them.

Marc,

Our Canadian neighbors here in this little community bought the lot next door to their house to create a cactus garden.  You ought to come visit!

Jeremy,

Thanks for stopping to comment!

Mikw,

Sorry I missed the mule deer yesterday, but I prefer corn feed white tail, they're much better eating!

Statues of deer are dangously stupid! They invite fools and vandles to shoot at your house.

Mike,

I love this living statue.  They seem to be appearing more and more in my neighborhood although the vegetation and colors around the ones here are a big contrast with yours.  You will see what I mean if you check out my latest post.  Thank you for the smile!  :)

Karen,

Take a photo or two!

John,

It was extraordinary.

Carolin,

We want to see pictures... :)

Judi,

She walked up out of the wash and stopped to look around.  I whistled softly.

Gerry,

Snow!  Are you planning a trip to the warm?

Steve,

That's what I thought too.
