Breast Cancer Survivor   2-1-0

How many breasts does one really need? Do you need 2?  Do you need 1? Do you need 0?

Ok, some of you may feel that having 2 breasts is essential to your well being.  To me, I feel that it depends on your age, how strongly you will feel about this.

pink ribbon for breast cancer

I understand that a teenager and a young woman feels that having her 2 breasts is very important.  Heaven forbid, that this person has to make a decision about whether or not to keep them.  I pray for breast cancer survivor photoher that she never has to make that decision as to whether or not  she wants to be a breast cancer survivor. Now, I ask you, does this survivor have 2, 1, or 0 of her natural breasts? She is a breast cancer survivor

Quite often I hear a woman who has been diagnosed with breast cancer say that no way is she going to have a mastectomy --- they are simply going for a lumpectomy  --- I cringe when I hear this.  If I know the person, I say, please reconsider.  Do you want to be a breast cancer survivor? Stop & think about how important is that breast, anyway --- especially, if you are over 50. Below are some breast cancer survivors:

What is more important --- having your natural breast or living?  I say to you, I would much rather be a breast cancer survivor --- you do understand that you can still have your breast if it is that important --- they do make implants.

What a boob-a-licious post!  And you are so right. Once you've seen a confident boobless woman, who exudes confident sexuality, you realize it's life that counts, not the flabby appendages.

signed... a survivor.

Liz, I think one reason women are no longer afraid to get mamograms is that even if they do find cancer, your chances of actually keeping your breats are a lot better than in the old days.  I've got two close friends over 50 who were able to do this, one with a lumpectomy and another with reconstructive surgury.  But bottom line, you're right.  Survival is the most important part of it all.

Cancer is such a devastating disease and it has taken so many of my friends.  In Deadly Dairy Deception, Dr. Bob Bibb explores the link between dairy products and the new pasteurization process and the high rates of breast/ovarian/prostate cancer.  Here is a link to it:

Great point!  I have known 2 women personally that were diagnosed with the most serious kind of breast cancer.  One went the double mastectomy route and 8 years later, she is still alive for me to enjoy her friendship and is cancer free.  The second decided against a mastectomy and her family (3 young children) lost her to cancer within one year of being diagnosed.

I think the older you get, the more you realize what you truly need to live and be healthy and happy. Appearance is important to some people, but survival is the ultimate key.

Liz- Keep putting forth your message.  Breast cancer isn't something that has happened in my family but neither has some of the other issues I have faced in that past few years.  So I keep reading and know in my heart what my decision would be if I were faced with breast cancer.  I want to live and for as long as possible!
