Hi everyone, this is Debra Andersohn, Brad's wife. I wanted to sneak into his Blog to write this while he's away. A few weeks ago, Brad told me that he had a surprise for me for our anniversary and asked me to take off three days from work. I was planning on surprising him, but I was happy to just go with it. We left early Tuesday morning and headed for what I thought was Monterey which is our spot where we usually go. Little did I know what an amazing and creative imagination my husband really has.
As we drove, I realized we were not going to Monterey and I couldn't figure out where we might be going. We passed the exit to the airport so we weren't going on an airplane (at least I thought). A couple of exits down the road, we get off the freeway and drive around for a bit then ultimately turned into the park and fly next to the airport. I said to Brad, "Oh my Gosh, we are NOT flying are we?" He said chuckling, "I am tired of the traffic, lets take a plane."
We entered the airport and he went up to the kiosk by himself to get the tickets to keep it a surprise. We went through security, then had a bite to eat. We didn't go up to the actual gate (once AGAIN keep it a surprise) but sat down somewhere nearby. Brad excused himself for a few minutes, then returned only to be called to the gate by name, "Brad and Debra Andersohn, please report to Gate 6." WOW! We walked to the gate and the lady greeted us with"Happy Anniversary."
She pre-boarded us even before the pre-board. We walked onto the plane with another warm greeting from the flight attendant who sat us in the First Class section that we were upgraded to by Alaskan Air. I was completely blown away. She handed us a couple mimosas and said, "Do you have any idea where we are going?" "No" I said. She just winked at Brad. ;-)
The flight attendant and pilot were in on the whole thing. At every announcement, our destination was never divulged. As we flew, it became clear to me that we were headed north, maybe Oregon since out my window I could see the coast and snow capped mountains on the right. Very beautiful. I never knew where we were or going until we got to the rental car, and I saw the signs saying Welcome to Seattle.
The drive to our hotel was wonderful and when we pulled up to the Fairmont Hotel. I was not only speechless, I was stunned. WOW! This is over the top I thought. The complete rock-star, red carpet treatment all the way.
Our room was amazing and already had Champagne, 12 long stem roses, and chocolate covered berries when we walked in!!
Brad then told me that Jon and Bob needed him to be at the AR RainCamp function and that I would be able to spend some time alone the next day and that we would go out to dinner later that night. I was really excited at the prospect of window shopping, enjoying the hotel gym and spa etc.
That night we went to a great sushi dinner at a place called WASABI BISTRO...OH YUMMMMMMMMM!
The next day, Brad took off very early in the morning and told me to be ready about 4:00pm. So, I took the day and started off at the gym. Then I went to the Pike Place Market and window shopped. After that was Borders Book Store where I bought a book and then went to the indoor pool area for some reading. I treated myself to a nice lunch at a French cafe' called Belle Epicurean located in the Faimont downstairs. The day was so very relaxing and peaceful, it was just what I needed. Thanks Sweetheart!!
That afternoon, Brad took me to the "Black Bottle" where a lot of his Active rain friends met for a social. Before going inside, he showed me a video that he had taken at the RainCamp meeting. He said the members had a special message for me. He also said it would make me cry, and it did. (see video below) I met some really great people and was warmly welcomed by all. Some of them even addressing me as "PRINCESS." What great friends and colleagues my husband has the honor of working with!
After the AR social gathering, we headed back to the hotel to get ready for dinner. Brad surprised me and had us picked up in a Lincoln Town-car and taken to a Restaurant called THE PALASADE. Amazing and unbelievable atmosphere, seafood and wine. What a great way to end our 14th Anniversary Celebration Day. Then there was the Hot Tub...and then... (not for public knowledge...hehe) The entire time, my husband spoiled me rotten. Made me truly feel like a Princess. He is a very romantic man, a trait that some men do not possess anymore from what I hear. I've heard his buddies say to him, "THANKS ALOT BRAD" as if he was setting the standard too high! lol. Everywhere we went, I would hear the women say to him, "Can you talk to my boyfriend/husband?" I think ActiveBrad should give seminars on how to romance a woman.
I love my husband with all of my heart and hope he knows how much I appreciate his love for me, and his attention to detail.
I never did have a chance to really do anything for Brad for our anniversary this year because he said no presents, lets just go away together. He stole me away and took care of everything. I decided I would plan next year, and we agreed that we would take turns from now on every year.
I think I had better start planning now!!!! Any ideas? Help!

Debra, How sweet! I so wish you would have been at RainCamp! But it sounds like you had an amazing day - I love going to Pikes! Good thing you have a year to plan!
He did set the bar high, Debra. Congratulations on 14 years together. Good luck in planning for next year. By the way, the video made ME tear up a little. My husband jokingly calls me Princess, too. ;)
Sweet! I was chatting with Brad outside registration and he was telling me how he had surprised you. He was still so excited. I'm sorry that Steve and I didn't get a chance to meet you and say "Happy Anniversary, and many more!"
Debra, and of course you too Brad, Happy Anniversary. Looks like this was a perfect combination of business and pleasure. And boy am I happy my wife doesn't peek into what I do on the computer. Especially with our anniversary coming up, not really I'll post the blog when it's over.
Okay, Debra...now I feel like a dork..LOL I can totally see it! All I got for my anniversary was a card that said, "I've got you, and you've got me." On the inside it said, "I win." Did I mention he's highly competitive? :)
I did hear the story from Brad - and thought it was very cool......Its only romantic if you're both in love with each other -as you both so obviously are! And 14 yrs.! Amazing...........and ohhhh the FAIRMONT ~ nothing but the best ;-) So glad you were made to feel so loved and special :-)
Princess Debra,
What an adventure for you and how nice for you both. Debra, I'm sure Brad got just as much out of creating this for you as you did receiving.
Btw, you know there are lot's of us here there in rainerland who are also in love with your husband...tell me at my age, is his Dad single? (lol)
Happy Anniversary to both of you. Brad has taken romantic, sentimental, creative and event planner to a new high! I am now forwarding this to my husband. Hope he gets the idea.
What a great surprise! Happy Anniversary to both of you! Sounds like you had an absolutely romantic time! Enjoy the next 20 as much as you have these last 20!
Happy Anniversary to both of you! What an amazing surprise. It sounds like you are both very lucky to have each other. Being so thoughtful goes a long way in keeping a marriage a happy one, I think. Congratulations!!!
OK - looks like my AR Blog has been "wife-jacked!" lol~ What a sweet thing for her to do, thanks Princess!! This is the best anniversary card ever. Oh yeah, congrats on the feature too... I swear it wasn't me that featured it either. Get the fireplace ready, I'm on my way.... :-))
BTW - how did you get my password and login... was Bob or Jon in on this?
Brad, you guys pulled off a great anniversary together it sounds like----many more to you! It was nice to meet the Princess at the Black Bottle after the Main Event.
Brad and DebraLee- Happy Anniversary! This was a wonderful way to share with the members here on Active Rain that all love how giving and thoughtful Brad is. May you have many more years together. Putting God first in your marriage and your lives has a lot to do with how happy you both are and how blessed your marriage is. Katerina
You are an amazing and patient wife! I don't know that I could have been as patient if my husband was working during our anniversary. You are both an amazing couple together! Congratulations it was a pleasure meeting you both that day! Thank You Debra for sharing the rest of the story. I think we were feeling a little selfish for taking so much of Brads time on such a special day!
Debra, Thanks for sharing your anniversary with us! We knew how Special Brad was and glad everyone else knows also. HappyAnniversary and many happy years to come.
Debra - what fun. Brad is an incredible person and obviously so much in love with you. I hope OUR paths will cross some time, too. Thank you for sharing this!
Debra, I am so glad that you had a wonderful anniversary and enjoyed Seattle. We all could tell, that Brad felt bad being away from you, however, I was thankful that he made some time for us. I learned a lot. Palasade has a wonderful setting like you mentioned and the food is fantastic. My out of town guests love it too. We do get lots of rain in Seattle, but we do have a beautiful city. Happy Anniversary!!!
Wow. That's kinda a sweet surprise. I'm always impressed with a man that can sweep his lady's feet off the ground like that. Good job, Brad!
When I saw Seattle - I smiled. Brad must be pulling one of his "need" to work but dont know how to pull it off during his anniversary week. Hah. He did good. I smiled when I read it.
I am happy for you and Brad. What a wonderful surprise. My guy is pretty good at romance and I would say that has a lot to do with our being very happily married for 29 years. God bless you both on another 14 years together!
Hi Debra...Nice...Brad is truly a real gentleman, what man wouldn't do the same for the love of their life, however many do not act..Brad is a doer and makes things happen..Well Done Brad !!
Brad and Debra - Happy Anniversary! Sounds like it was an awesome one. With all the time Brad takes to hang out with us, it's good to know we're not using up all of it. I hope you get to take many more trips like this. If you ever need a fun place, San Antonio's always waiting (and I'll pitch in on the secret planning committee).
WOW! That is awesome that he integrated a little work and the community he works for a part of your big celebration!! I must say Active Brad is Actively resourceful and creative for putting all that together!
That was a wonderful post I am grateful that you shared with us Debra. Happy 14th Anniversary to you Debra & Brad. That was a delicious sounding celebration. Debra - I do have an idea for you for next year - but you will have to email me.
Congratulations to you both! My wonderful hubby and I will be celebrating ours in a few months. Its truely a blessing to have found such true love and to have it last. Thanks for sharing such a wonderful personal experience.
Congratulations on your anniversary. Debra - thank you for sharing! I too got tears in my eyes... Brad - you are a dear person... who else but you could have come up with a way to keep everyone happy?~?~ Now I can't wait till October 2010 to see how you're going to keep this going... oh - did I mention Lee and I had our 36th this year.... start planning Brad, start planning! Love to you both!
I rejoice with you on finding each other and 14 timeless years shared! What a bright light of love for our world and our hearts. Happiest Anniversary! <3
Wow what a beautiful story. I must admit I am not surprised. The LOVE Brad has for his family is so apparent in his blogging.
It is truly a beautiful testimonial of what a loving marriage and family is about In these times when marriages fall apart, it is truly refreshing to hear stories like this. Happy Anniversary and God's Blessings on many more. Thanks for sharing your anniversary with us. What an inspiration to take every opportunity to make togetherness something special.
Congratulations to you both! It sounds like you deserve each other - not only a romantic and considerate Brad, but an understanding Debra to share Brad with ActiveRain on your great weekend.
Ideas for next year? St. Petersburg, Florida (diagonally opposite Seattle) or Playa Hermosa in Costa Rica.
Will you be in San Diego for NAR - maybe we'll get to meet you there.

Thank you again everyone for your kind comments! Brad does work very hard. All of us have to in this day and age. That is why on special occasions it is real important to go all out when you are blessed with the means. Whether we went to Seatlle like we did, or just a nice romantic dinner, It is precious to just spend time with my ultra busy husband :)
For those of you offfering ideas for me for next year. I will be in touch!!!
Ideas for next year.. My wife and I just celebrated our 30th and visited Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks. Both were great but Glacier was stunning and "the highway to the sun" was spectacular. We stayed in Whitefish Montana and the best dinner that we have ever had in a restaurant called Tupelo in old town Whitefish. Good luck!
That's such a nice memory!! You are a lucky woman....clearly Brad is a lucky man too, or he wouldn't be motivated to go to so much trouble. Not even a "big" number anniversary....unbelievably special.
The most amazing part of it was how Brad was able to get the pilot and flight attendants from revealing the destination. The pilot always announces the destination over the speakers, talking about the arrival time and weather, etc. And the gate always has an electronic sign showing the destination. Then, when the plane is about to land, the pilot will typically say they are about to land in _____. It's amazing that every single point where the destination would normally be revealed was covered.
Hey Princess- Thanks for sharing your moment with us and thatnsk for shareing Brad with us in Saettle. He has helped lots of people have a better business.

What a great event ... how exciting ... many woman dream of such attention and care for every detail. You are truly blessed. I am happy for both of you ... may you continue in love, prosperity, peace and happiness. Thanks for sharing your anniversary and special surprise with us.
Yes Bill it was amazing...and I also made sure not to be too nosy because I love, love, love to be surprised! What happened is rare. But then again through the years I remember many times my husband pulling strings. It's very easy for him with his wonderfully charismatic personality!
First of all congratulations on your anniversary. Twenty years together is a very long time. That tells me you two are truly in love and are each others soul mates. That's a wonderful thing. You both are blessed to have found each other in this lifetime. I'm so happy for you both. I also think what Blog-N-Roll Brad did for you is amazing. That's about as romantic as it gets. But, now that you have to top that, may I suggest a chartered flight to an unknown destination with horse back riding and perhaps a few golf courses?
And now for a nice song that goes well with this post :)
Debra you are one lucky lady to have such a sweet heart for a husband. I follow Brads blog and really enjoy it and now I know why. Happy belated Anniversary
WTG, Brad! I met Brad at a REBarCamp in Denver this spring, and I could tell by that short meeting that he's a very caring, friendly fellow. To be such a community builder here at AR, he just would have to be. You are very fortunate to have such a great guy for a hubby. My hubs is a very nice fellow, but not very good at the romantic part. Yes, Brad could give him lessons. What to do for Brad next year? Based on some of his posts, he was rather fond of his camping outing a couple of years ago in the sand dunes with bikes. And he really enjoyed his time with his son at the after graduation before college trip. So, maybe an outing where the whole family is involved?
Although, I've never met you I have had the great fortune of meeting Brad back at the ReBar camp in Houston. Because of our continued interaction here at active rain, Facebook etc. I have learned more about both him and you and it's pretty amazing that we share a number of things in common. He is fortunate to have you and in fact he is a keeper too so what a happy medium!!
BTW you may have to start saving now but I think he is dreaming of a new PRS Guitar...
Many happy returns over the years and both of you KEEP ON ROCKING!
Thanks so much for sharing the rest of this anniversary time you had with Brad. I was there at RainCamp and participated in the message to you, and got to say hello to you at the Black Bottle, so it was nice to hear the rest of the story. You do have your work cut out for you, but so do I. I always thought I was pretty romantic myself, but Brad has set the bar high for me as well! Congratulations again.
Thank you for this lovely post. Congrats on your 14th anniversary and may the two of you have many more happy times together and lots more anniversaries to celebrate!
Well, what can you say. Brad is known to be able to pull off stuff to remember. This Black Bottle keeps popping up on blogs about the RainCamp. Hmmm? Happy Anniversary.
Happy Anniversary! My wife and I celebrate #14 next month, so we're right with ya! Don't think I'll be flying her off anywhere this year, but maybe next year!
The best to both of you! Brad will have to start teaching a class in how to appreciate a woman! I'll sign my husband up right now. I do have to give him credit though, he does all the food shopping and all the launder so I keep him.
Happy Anniversary! That is completely awesome to get things that well planned that you didn't know where you were going until you were practically there. We have gone away for our anniversary before, but we both knew the destination and worked together to plan it.
Oh so heart-warming! Thanks for sharing your special day with us. I was at Rain Camp, and truly Brad was with you in spirit all day, and what a luxury you experienced while we were "camping"! Nice to see/share these wonderful stories... thanks, Debra & Brad
A big "thanks" to the both of you for allowing us to hear so much great info on your anniversary! I'm very glad to have taken the course. I'm slowly working my way through all the free suggestions you've provided and am loving many of them so far! Well, except the video through email is a little creepy with the lighting I have currently. :-/
Debra... so glad you had a great anniversary in Seattle. We had fun with the Happy Anniversary video at Raincamp... glad you enjoyed it. What a fun couple of days!
Debra, I think you are going to enjoy this full year of planning for the big #15. In the mean time, go to re-date.com you can figure out how many special days you have been together. Then you can celebrate each day and not wait the entire year. 110 days ago we celebrated our 15,000 day anniversary. Just keep enjoying and appreciating each other!
Debra - What a great read. Your story was great. Your husband is a true gift and wish you many, many more anniversaries! I like your idea of taking turns on the "take me away" plan. Be happy! and......WTG Brad! You scored serious points !
Congratulations! I've been married for 43 years and when people tell me I don't look my age I tell them it is because "I have been well loved". I truly believe that a happy partnership keeps you young!!!
Ryan - well I wasn't going to comment on my "Wife-Jacked" post here, but I just wanted to say "YES" I am a very lucky man, and also wanted to say "Congrats" on your 45 days being married. I remember you saying you were getting married. Awesome!!
I once heard a couple announce their 65th wedding anniversary at a large party, the wife got up and told everybody, and I quote, she said, "The First 65 Years Are The Hardest!" lol~ It's not true! Love will overcome ALL obstacles my friend. Congrats to you both. :-))
Yes when my husband is passionate about anything in life he pours everything into it! I think you guys here on AR have experienced his drive and dedication to serve. So much so that he loses himself in it. There have been many times that I come home at night only to find that he has not eaten all day. Not because he is lazy, his day gets away from him. I am pretty sure I will do something nice for my honey very soon. JUST BECAUSE!!!!
He is GREAT at EVERYTHING he does, and a jack of all trades HE IS!
Brad you are the MAN. As a newly married man...I am glad to see that after 14 years, you are both still keeping your love alive. Great job.
Debra: Whatever he loves the most...do that. If he loves football or some other sport...take him there. Make sure that he gets to meet his favorite player. If he loves music. Find the concert and get him a backstage pass. If he loves nature take him to his favorite spot on earth.
Also, more (not for public consumption) at the end of the night too ;-)
It just goes to show you that even with a busy demanding life, that the most improtant things need to be special and it sounds like it was! Congrats and many more, but you have your work cut out for you next year!
I am not even sure if I can do a pull up to such a high bar! I remember doing something similar years ago in upstate New York for my wife. I walked into the travel agency and told them my timeline and budget and said "If you were going to do this for two people and didn't want to spend the whole time driving to get there, just book the trip in my wife and my names instead of yours". She thought I was crazy, but I explained that she had access to all the data, so I should trust her judgement. Ended up taking a train into Canada and had a super fantastic trip.
Congrats on surviving the seven year itch twice! .
Happy Anniversary! What a fabulous get away..one you will always remember..Congrats Brad for raising the bar..Debra you have some time to plan for next year..we want to hear your surprise!!
