The most often asked non-real estate related question that I get asked every year. Can you guess what it is?

Autumn leaves in the Great Smoky Mountains National ParkFlutter and flurry and winter's chill
Toss fire-hued petals aloft until
The caress of earth,  then lay in place
For one last show of nature's grace!

The one question that comes up the most this time of year is this: "Will it be a good leaf season?"

There are many scientific factors that affect leaf color. The amount of sunlight, recent rainfall, temperature and elevation can all affect leaf color.

But if there is one thing that I have learned over all of the years that I have been taking fall foliage photos is this: There is always good leaf color somewhere!

And like any good treasure hunter, I seek to find the caches of color wherever they may be!

It's a ritual of autumn that I have repeated every year for more than I care to remember.

And it's what I look forward to every year!

Hi Richard ~ I read that around here at least it's supposed to be a great foliage season. And if my tour out in the burbs today was any indication I think it is going to be super. Can't wait for all your photos!

What a lovely poem Richard.  I have two trees in my front yard that are glorious right now, they match the Halloween decorations we're putting up today.

Good evening Richard,

I think that I was just a couple of weeks early in my visit to the Smokies.  I am sure that you are well up on when to go out and get those wonderful pictures.

BTW my friend, thank you for the great advice on places to go in the Smokies.  I had a GREAT time.

Richard - I love your poem. Autumn is such a special time of year. As long as we do not receive to much wind and rain in the next few weeks, it should be a spectacular show.

Liz...

I have always wanted to visit New England in the fall. I keep saying "maybe next year!" I really need to try to do that soon! THX

Linda...

I love it ... and it's nice that fall is "on time" this year! Thanks for the comment.

Don...

I'm glad to hear that you had a great time. One year my daughter and I were caught in an early snowfall during the first week of October! Thanks, as always.

You reminded me of a funny story.  A few years ago I had a client who had purchased a lake home from me a few years prior to that.  He was just done raking leaves and asked me "When do the leaves stop falling?"  I said with authority... December 15th.  Of course I just made it up and of course I thought he heard my sarcasum, alas ever single  year since I get a call on December 16th asking me two things :

  1. Are we done yet?
  2. You bringing your own rake or do you want me to leave mine out for you

I hope I have some beautiful leaves soon, but I don't want to rake any of them.

Richard, love the poem and photo. I hear so many people say that the colors are not so good, but things are just starting to heat up. And yes, I am finding color everywhere, so the camera is in overdrive!

Have a wonderful day! I am scrambling to catch up from a few odd days here.

Richard:

It looks as though you have some pretty leaves in Georgia.  But, if you ever have chance to come to New England this time of the year, the combination of your camera, your talent and our foliage would make for some amazing results.  Thank you for your lovely photos.

Some of the leaves here are just starting to turn, but I am sure that more have made their change in the mountains.
