Octoberfest came to Big Canoe this weekend. There were 70 booths open for business. There was a live band and plenty of good food. The weather was a concerned , but aside from the passing sprinkle it was a good day

booths and sights

There were a lot of tents set up with great stuff to buy.

Fall Theme

As it is fall the theme was set by displays in front of the festival. It was fun for young and old

working a booth

I had booth duty . Big Canoe first response and fire had a booth. We have an adopt a fire hydrant program as well as explaining what goes on in Big Canoe. We are a great mountain community where people roll up their sleeves to help each other out as well as party at a great Octoberfest

Charlie:  Where's the canoes ?  I saw the title... was hoping for some canoe stuff.  Many years ago I owned a canoe.  Used to put it on a rack on my Pontiac, and cart it out to NorthEastern Ohio... on the Grand River near Austinberg... lots of great covered bridges in the area.  Very, very peaceful.

But... it looks like your Octoberfest was great.  I'd have like to have gone.  Could I bring my canoe ??

This looks like everyone had a great time.

It's wonderful to be a part of a community that functions so well together!

You can't just tease us and leave us hanging by telling us that you have an "adopt a fire hydrant" program. What the heck is an adopt a fire hydrant program?

Russel:  I am guessing that the "adopt a fire hydrant" program, whatever it is, is especially important if you have a dog in the family.  LOL.

Ok for those of you who asked about a Canoe, there are 3 lakes in Big Canoe that you can boat on 2 you can fish on. For the adopt a Hydrant folks. I will go into my Octoberfest patter. You can adopt a Hydrant here in Big Canoe, What does that mean Mr Fireman? It is easy. You do not have to feed it, walk it , or put it through college. In Big Canoe there are over 500 Hydrants in our Mountain community. By adopting one you make sure the brush around it is not over growing the hydrant. If the hydrant leaks then you report it. If the blue reflectors that are in the road in line with the hydrant get broken or are missing you report it. The blue reflectors tell firefighters where the hydrants are/. Remember we are in the mountains and there are no street light. Also you get to name your hydrant and at the end of the year the best name wins a prize. This program is aimed at helping us all with fire safety
