Dark paneling was a status symbol for years.  We think of it as being rich.

Rich is may be AND it's dark.

I had a difficult time convincing the owener of this home to paint the paneling.  Now the room looks twice the size.

I don't like  wood paneling, it's depressing... Your room looks 1000% better! Good job. I'd paint the 2 windows the same color...

Way to go.  So many people are hesitant on painting paneling but it really does open up the room which allows for offers to come in.  Thanks for sharing.

I just did this myself in our new home... what a difference it makes!  The wooden paneling just sucks up all the light in the space making it feel like a cave...which I don't think of as 'warm' at all - what men always seem to say about paneling...

My son has paneling like this and he "likes it" so it stays...for now.  He has already been warned that it must be painted when they decide to sell.  What a difference!

Hi Virginia,

What a difference painting the paneling made to the room.  It looks great!  Thanks for sharing!

Virginia -- very good idea to paint over that dark, depressing paneling -- the room looks so nice now!

Oh Goodness, what a big difference.  I don't know why more people don't paint thier paneling.

What a fantastic improvement!  So often seller's don't want to paint over paneling.  Your photos illustrate why it is sometimes necessary.

I left the window frame that color becasue of the seat/flower section.    It's a high gloss varnish.

Next time I'll consider painting it OR if the realtor has a comment on it.

Marianne you didn't catch it because the whole house transformation was so wonderful that this just didn't stand out.

The more I look at those photos the more I realize that I missed the boat.   I'll go back and paint that oak frame to white myself.

Thanks to all of you for your compliments and comments.

Yikes Virginia did the sellers recognize the room after the transformation?  Such a BIG, BIG difference!  We are faced with so much knotty pine, here in the mountains and people can't bear to paint it BUT I would LOVE to.  Your photos are a great example of the change it makes.  AND your staging is great too!

It looks great! Home Harmony recently did a home with a paneled basement. Amazing what a little paint can do. It certainly adds life and the illusion of being bigger.

Looking at the BIG transformation, you can hardly tell by the after photo that it is painted wallboard.  The carpet looks much better with the lighter coloured walls.  Very inviting.

Ginger, the sell game me a hard time about painting the paneling.  She thought it was rich and warm.  I've emailed her photos and she's had no comments about the staging to me.  She told the realtor that she likes it.

Liz, basements definetely do well with painted paneling.  I'm working on one basement now that the paneling is being painted.

Susan, thanks for the compliment

This is incredible, Virginia.  Goes to show just how beneficial having a listing staged can do for a home.

Congratulations.  Your home staging is being featured in the group Staging Before & After Pictures.

Great work! We have had to work with a home with dark dark paneling as well. It can be difficult.
