1.   During the winter keep your draperies open during the day to let sunlight warm your home and keep them closed at night to help keep cold air out.

2.   Seal leaks and caulk around doors and windows to prevent air loss, change or clean air filters every month and make sure your home is properly insulted. ( I did a series on this earlier in the month).

3.   Run the dishwasher when it is full, and air-dry  instead of using heat dry setting. You will save electricity by washing fewer loads and not drying with heat.

4.  Wash full loads of clothes  and if possible use cold water to wash your clothes. You will save electricity by running fewer loads  and not heating the water.

5.   In the winter which is almost upon us here in Texas, set the thermostat to 68 degrees in the daytime and comfortable lower setting at night or when you are away from home.

We keep hearing your utility bill will be rising, try a few of these  and see if it will help.

Brenda we do the same thing. Thanks for mentioning the light bulbs, that is a great saver. They seem expensive but in the long run help save on the utility bill.

    Howdy there Carl and Ceil

These sure are some mighty fine tips, that folks really should use. In our home we, only use cold water for washing our clothes. And we only do full loads. We also have the dishwasher coved, seen that we do not use one at all.

Carl my friend, Thank you, for taken the time to write such a fine, and very helpful blog post, for folks to read.

Deb this is Ceil my brother that lives in Rockport  put in a new threshold by putting a board underneath. I don't know if that is what Carl would do but I saw my brother's and it looks good and works.

I'll tell Carl, we need to get back kover to Diary. I hope AR will start letting us post in more then five places, we have so many good groups including the Diary.

Have a good week. Stop by, I just wrote a blog why I love New Braunfels Texas. Now I'm on my way to New Braunfels to go to Lowe's and Home Depot, going to remodel my kitchen. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
