Fish out of waterIt has been a VERY long 4 days. I have been like a fish out of water since my blackberry went on the fritz. The trackball was frozen and I could not scroll up or down only left to right. Yee gads, what to do... So I stayed glued to my computer for receiving my emails. Then yesterday 3 days after it stopped working my granddaughter showed me how I could still actually use it even if the trackball was not working. Leave it to the younger generation to know all there is to know about electronics.

Today my new phone was finally delivered. It was only 3 days late. Yes I asked and paid for express overnite delivery. Needless to say they did not quite make that express delivery work. Nothing new on that front.

Blackberry StormMy new phone is a Blackberry Storm. No trackball to worry about. I was elated. Excitement was high as I unboxed it and set it to charge while I went on an appointment. I was smiling from ear to ear the whole time I was away and could not wait to get back to my new phone.

Tonight I am hating my new phone. The touch screen is either way too touchy or not touchy enough. I couldn't find the keyboard and when I did I couldn't figure out how to make it stay. I was beginning to fret over my decision and the thrill of my phone finally being delivered was quickly turning dark and gloomy stormy.

I finally got the thing activated and then finally was able to activate my email account. I found Facebook and activated that too but it has disappeared. It is somewhere lost in the touch pad of this new fangled thing called a phone.

I hate feeling like a fish out of water. I wish things were not so darn complicated, at least for me. I am beginning to pine for the old dial phones and the operator on the other end who connected us to our calls. Oops.... so that dates me way back I know but I really just remember hearing about them not using them. Well maybe not.

Ok... so tomorrow is another day. My phone will be charged and ready to go to work. As for me.... I will be charged and ready to go to work also AND this new Storm phone thingy is not going to rain on my day.

I will get the hang of it even if I have to call my granddaughter back over just to show me how.

Did I say how much I love having grandchildren?

Hi Martha...Changing phones can be a pain.  When I changed to a Blackberry Curve from a Palm.  I was unable to get all of my contacts transferred.  Actually I didn't even try.  The folks at two Verizon stores tried and both were unsuccessful.  What a mess.

Hope tomorrow brings nothing but sunshine with your Storm.

lol!!! Thanks for the laugh! All the time I was reading through I kept thinking..."she just needs to get her grandaughter again!" Yes it's great having grandchildren...how else would we be able to keep up with the electronic world?

Good luck with the storm....I sent my back....hated it! I went back to the 8900 blackberry and love it. I do hear the Ipod though is the coolest.....I'll wait ... till the 8900 phone dies...or have lots of time to learn a new one!!

Kate- Oh my yes. I hear it gets easier and those who have it have all hated it in the beginning but now love it so we will see.. :0)

Shirley- I have heard great things about the iphone too but just do not like the phone carrier. their reception is horrible around here. I will bid my time and hopefully the storm will not stay stormy for long. LOL

HI Martha - Sorry, but I too had to laugh when reading this post.  When my husband first got his Blackberry he called it a piece of junk and had to use his will power to keep from throwing it at the wall.  Once he got used to it, he fell in love with it.  I have an Instinct and there are things about it that I love, but it did take me awhile to find just the right setting and touch so that the touch screen didn't seem to take off to different screens before I wanted it to. :)

Susan- I can relate to your husbands feelings about the phone really well just about now. But you have brought me back to my senses as you are yet another who has said it does get easier. :0)

Kids have the knack of this new technology in phones more than I do. :(

Martha - I am convinced kids of today were born with a computer screen as a brain.  I remember back when my oldest grandson (now 20 years old), would sit on my lap in front of the computer, back in 1991 when he was still in diapers)  I was trying to make a girl character jump during a computer game, and couldn't make it happen.  He says, "Nana, you do it like this," and started using the arrow keys to make her jump. . .I was astounded.  He has always been the one that has helped me with tech things, Even when adults were clueless as to what to do.

I just ended my 2 year contract with my provider and of course my treo will probably die.  I had to laugh reading your post and thinking I was just going to inquire about a blackberry and here's your post.  Reading the comments I'm still undecided. Kate's comment has me thinking maybe I should do some more research or ask my grandchildren before I make a decision. Let us know how the storm works out.

Still chuckling, as I recognize your story all too well.  My Treo didn't die, but peer pressure within my highly-connected family finally pushed me into purchasing an i-phone.  I heard and read everyone's love stories about their i-phones, but couldn't imagine loving it more than my Treo.  It was a learning experience, but I'm getting there.  I can't imagine going back, even to my beloved Treo.
