I like to golf and I don't take it as seriously as I used to.  There is a 9 hole public course 5 minutes from my home and once in awhile I will play 9 holes at the end of the day as a stress reliever and I love meeting new friends while on the course.

Many of you have read my post Is there marketing 101 overkill? This lady seems to think so and know I am big on handing out business cards everywhere I go and this includes everywhere I play!

3 weeks ago I was playing at Fairview Golf Course and I teamed up with a wonderful young man by the name of Jim.  After about the 3rd hole I ask Jim about himself and it turns out he and his wife and daughter moved here from another state and are renting a home until their out of state home sells.  After I told him what I do he asked me for a card which I handed him.  I set Jim up for auto emails from my website and he started receiving emails that same evening from my system.  Jim received an offer on his out of state home a week ago and made an offer through me on one of the homes my system sent him!  We are due to close the 15th of July.

Last Saturday morning I decided to play a quick 9 holes and I got teamed up with a couple of real nice guys.  On the 4th hole one of the guys asks me what I do. I told them and Earl asked me for a card and says he wants to buy some recreation property.  I also set Earl up to receive automatic emails of recreation properties just north of where I live.  Earl fell in love with one of the properties my system sent him and called me tonight to tell me he will be in my office tomorrow to write a full price offer!

Golf is great for business contacts!  Last year we had a weekly golf game but it always seemed that one of us four couldn't make it.  We always had a walk on and almost always I made a new contact.  I then had to convince my wife that I was working not golfing.  Good Post!!!

George,

I am not much of a golfer but I need to get better at passing out my business card.  You never know who is going to be in the market for real estate.  I am kind of shy by nature so it has been hard getting over that in this business.

okay -- I don't play golf either -- I go to yoga class -- I have met several people there who have referred buyers -- so I guess there are a couple of other things one can do -- I also were the BIG "R" pin -- and sometimes people walk up and ask a question - I hand them my card -- then I took line dancing -- same thing -- wore the BIG R -- and handed out cards -- the important thing is to get involved where there are other people to meet --- I would like to take some golf lessons though.

George,

I truly enjoy the game of golf but I rarely find the time with all of the other obligations I currently have.  But once I hit that first drive, I realize that the sport is an important part of business.  Plus the fact I have a little more free time on my hands because of the state of the industry...

Getting out of the office and handing out cards and meeting folks is a GREAT start.  So many get stuck in the mire of the office and miss the opportunity to relax and "network".

Keep it up Georgia... I'm working on following your lead.  Matt Locke

George, I love golf. My new Callaway's X20 clubs are great. Consider sponsoring a hole or a golf cart. Make your game a business and possible tax deduction. I try to play at least once a week; always running into someone interested in real estate.  FOUR>>>>> Great Story. Great Post.

We began playing golf about six months ago. I have picked up two sellers on the course . I try to get there a few minutes before my husband and sit in the club house and do a little networking. They are starting to know who I am and are coming up to me asking how was business today. Pass out your business cards they are a great marketing tool.

George,

A golf course is as good a location as any to get professional exposure, like your examples prove. What probably made the difference with these two new clients you got was that your approach was smooth. Non-aggressive. After a few holes your conversations drifted into the what-do-you-do stuff and the rest is history.
