We noticed a few Internet Explorer 4.0 users on the www.realbird.com domain and also on the RealBird single property websites. According to Wikipedia IE 4 was released 12 years ago in '97 superseeded by IE 5 in 1999. I wonder who on Earth still uses IE 4?

Good news: As you can see it in the trends below, in most browser categories, usage of the latest versions grew significantly.

The only category where I would like to see some changes is the upgrade from IE 7 to IE 8 (and forgetting about IE 6 altogether). Firefox 3 and 3.5 are both solid (though 3.5 is much faster) but IE 8 is a big improvement over IE 7. IE 6 is just simply terrible.

Here are the links to the latest browser downloads, just in case you - dear reader - still use IE 4 :)

Upgrading to the latest browser will benefit you (latest versions are much faster) and benefit us, developers, because we do not have to spend time on developing and testing for old versions and therefore we can roll out new features and products faster. It's a win-win.

So what's your browser preference?

In order of appearance, I love Chrome, can't use it for everything though. Then when I am posting I open Firefox because I use Scribefire. Of course if I have too many comments to reply to I have to use Firefox so again I can use Scribefire. Then of course I have to use IE8 when using either of my MLS's, they won't let me use Chrome or Firefox.

I have a multiple personality disorder....

I use both IE and Firefox, but my favorite is IE 1.0 with DOS!

Oops, I remember when IE was introduced, we were warned not to switch as MLS would not work properly.

And I never checked with them again. Will call them tomorrow

Andrea - Chrome, Firefox, Safari - in this order. IE only for testing new developments

Gabe - 1.0 was the real deal :)

Jon - There was (is) a time when MLSs only worked with IE. And then there was a time when MLSs had terminal interface with command prompt. It was not that long ago ('96, '97ish)

Zoltan:  Thank you for sharing this with us.  I switched to Firefox a few months ago and I love it!  I'm still occasionally using Explorer, because our mls system - Paragon, doesn't work in Firefox.

Mirela - FF 3.5 ? It's so much faster than Firefox 3. I use Google Chrome most of the time, but also Firefox, rarely IE

Hi Zoltan,

I am running both IE 7 and 1 version behind on Opera mini for my Blackberry. i have no excuse for the version of Opera, but our local MLS has a problem with IE 8 so untill that's fixed we are stay with IE7.

I think the reason people stay with the older versions is unless you have to upgrade to use a particular program or you have just brought a new computer. It can be a hassle and the new version can have "bugs" and "upset the apple cart", there is also the learning curve of the new version.

Hope you are well and life's good.

Alan

Hi Alan - Long time no talk. How is everything? IE 7 is OK but IE 8 is much faster. Hopefully your MLS will let you use the latest IE soon. You are right about the general perception of upgrades being dangerous. But it is mostly Microsoft's fault. I am itchy when I have to upgrade IE because I just don't trust the process. I never had that problem with upgrading other browsers because I know I can get rid of them or roll back if something does not work. With IE being so close to the OS, it is always a gamble. But IE 8 is really much better than IE 7
