Greenbrier Valley Theatre's Fundraising EventOn Friday, October 9th, the Greenbrier Valley Theatre (GVT) held A Taste of New Orleans culinary benefit at Blackwell's Restaurant in Lewisburg, WV, hosted by Mary Cowan and Ouida Davis. This was the second "Taste" fundraiser benefitting the theatre  Last year Roger and LewAnne Cerasoli hosted A Taste of Italy in their Greenbrier Sporting Club home.

The bar opened at 6 pm, and was followed by a delicious New Orleans inspired buffett prepared by Culinary Insititute of American alumni Chef Tim Rodgers. While guests visited with each other, they also had a chance to view and bid on a variety of items at the silent auction table, including a round of golf for four at the Greenbrier Sporting Club's Sneed course, donated by Ralph and Debbie Ballard.

The hottest silent auction item was a Mardi Gras dinner for 12 in the home of GVT Board Member Mary Cowan. The item was so popular, that at the end of the night Ms. Cowan offered to host three parties for the top three bidders, if they all agreed to pay the winning bid price.

Kimberly ScottKimberly Scott, who is the Tony-award nominee actress portraying Lady Macbeth in GVT's fall production of Shakespeare's famous tragedy, began the set. She was followed by GVT's Artistic Cathy SawyerDirector and Washington Street Strutter's lead vocalist, Cathey Sawyer.

After the entertainment, silent aution winners were announced and the evening wound down to a close. The fundraiser was not only a wonderful success for GVT, but all the guests enjoyed themselves immensely. A total of 132 guests attended the fundraiser.  GVT is already beginning plans to hold the event again next year.

If you would like to open your home to host the event in late September of 2010, contact GVT's Development Office at (304) 645-3838.

We had a wonderful time and look forward to GVT's next years "Taste" fundrasing event.

I miss going to New Orleans twice a year for Cajun food. I haven't been since 2003. I did finally find a good Cajun restaurant here, finally.
