Do Your Friends and Family REALLY Understand How A REALTOR Works?

Today my sister called so excited about a home she is going to buy for her son who is in college because it's a great time to buy and what a great investment!  Duh!  I told her this month's ago and explained to her when she got ready to buy something to let me "refer" her to a real estate professional in that area.  Of course you know what happened.....her son began looking for home and called the listing agent (of course without my knowledge)!  So now guess what I am doing?  Right...negotiating, giving advice, telling them what they should and shoudn't do and the best part?  It's all for free!  Not that I wouldn't work for free for my family but if I can make a few dollars without costing my sister any additional money then what is the harm?  Plus, I make sure she is working with a qualified professional.

As REALTORS we are a worst enemies sometimes because we fail to really educate those closest to us.  We take it for granted they understand how we work.  We have to keep nudging and telling those people around us what we can do for them so they will remember us when it's time for their family and friends to purchase a home.
